Job summary

We are looking for Deputy Children’s Home Managers that are keen to be part of setting up and managing new homes and have previous experience of working in specialist solo provision, mental health residential settings, crisis accommodation and with children and young people with sensory, ASD, mental health needs and who have suffered significant trauma.

This new residential provision will be part of a Children and Young People Service judged as `Good` by Ofsted in January 2018 and build on practice from our other residential homes all judged as ‘Good’ or `Outstanding’.

Main duties of the job

Deputy Residential Managers in Rotherham will:

Provide assistance and management support to the Registered Manager in the day to day running of service provision

Provide assistance to Registered Manager to ensure homes comply with all standards and legislative requirements

Provide opportunities for children and young people to influence the decisions that affect them and the service they receive

Promote a therapeutic approach with both children and young people and staff

Foster a commitment to continuous growth and development for their staff team

Work systemically with a range of agencies to ensure a joined-up service centred on the child

Monitor and develop standards in line with Children’s Home Regulations and work towards ensuring all homes being Good or Outstanding

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Deputy Childrens Home Manager posts will play a key role in the development and management of a range of in-house residential provision for Rotherham looked after children.

Rotherham Council has made a strategic decision to make a significant investment in childrens residential services. This will ensure more of our looked after children are placed in Rotherham, close to their local communities, family, and schools.

We are using current best practice and evidence-based models to develop a range of new children`s homes including 2 and 4 bed EBD, emergency accommodation and solo provision for some of our most complex children and young people.

We are looking for Deputy Childrens Home Managers that are keen to be part of setting up and managing new homes and have previous experience of working in specialist solo provision, mental health residential settings, crisis accommodation and with children and young people with sensory, ASD, mental health needs and who have suffered significant trauma.

This new residential provision will be part of a Children and Young People Service judged as `Good` by Ofsted in August 2022 and build on practice from our short break residential home provision.

Deputy Managers in Rotherham will:

Provide assistance and management support to the Registered Manager in the day to day running of service provision, as well as manage the home and workforce in the absence of the Registered Manager Provide assistance to Registered Manager to ensure homes comply with all standards and legislative requirements Provide opportunities for children and young people to influence the decisions that affect them and the service they receive Promote a therapeutic approach with both children and young people and staff Foster a commitment to continuous growth and development for their staff team Work systemically with a range of agencies to ensure a joined-up service centred on the child Monitor and develop standards in line with Childrens Home Regulations and work towards ensuring all homes being Good or Outstanding Hold a full valid UK drivers licence Ability to transport children and young people to and from school/activities

Qualifications

Essential

Level 7 qualification Post Graduate Certificates and Diplomas, or Level 6 qualification Bachelor Degrees, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas; plus post qualifying experience Or Evidence of the equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or the equivalent. Or will have completed within 2 years of starting work in the role. Failure to complete the Level 3 Diploma or equivalent within 2 years will prevent the post holder from assuming this post, with immediate effect. Therefore, may result in your contract of employment being terminated.

Experience

Essential

Substantial experience of working and managing in a social care setting with children and young people. Knowledge and experience of law and practice relating to looked after children and legal status applied to children with the Childrens Act Knowledge of best practice and relevant research in child placement services. Knowledge of Restorative and trauma informed practice. Good knowledge of Childrens Homes Regulations and Safeguarding frameworks. Experience of working at a senior management level in a residential setting. Experience of working with children, young people and families with complex needs. Experience of management of and supervision of staff. Experience of managing budgets. Experience of working in partnership with other agencies, children and young people and parents Experience of performance management, quality assurance systems Experience of carrying out audits/checks and implementing improvement measures as required knowledge and understanding of local authority processes, policies and procedures Utilising a range of ICT systems and applications
