Main duties of the job

Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes. Undertake other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as supported by the practice Clinical Pharmacy Team and GPs.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is a Pharmacy Technician and is anintegral part of the pharmacy team and general practice team, working withintheir professional boundaries.

This role will work under the supervision of theClinical Pharmacist / Senior Pharmacy Technician / GPs to ensure the safe,accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.

They will provide technical and administrativesupport to GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, and the general practice team.

The Pharmacy Technician will conduct medicineoptimisation tasks including effective medicine administration, reconciliation,synchronisation and supporting with medication reviews.

The Pharmacy Technician will support with requests/queriesfrom patients and other health care settings regarding medication, includingthe issuing of repeat prescriptions and supporting with out-of-stockmedication.

They will complete audits regarding patient safety andcost-effective prescribing of medication and share the information with theclinical team.

To work in thedispensary to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs andprescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of goodpractice and standard operating procedures.

Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician. There maybe on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependentupon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Qualifications

Qualified Pharmacy Technician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths at Grade C or above Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH)
