We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate individual to cover an 18-month period of leave providing administration support to the epidemiology team at UK Biobank in accordance with respective procedures and systems and maintain databases and records accordingly.  This exciting new role will be interdisciplinary in nature working across the Access and Epidemiology teams, with key responsibilities including scientific review of research applications received by UK Biobank, and of annual reports and other outputs from researchers.  

The key responsibilities are;
  • Helping to conduct scientific reviews of applications to access the UK Biobank data, and of annual reports and other outputs from researchers currently accessing UK Biobank data.
  • Working across the Access and Epidemiology teams to provide scientific advice on the conduct of the study and on the available data and samples to researchers worldwide.
  • Helping to maintain an up-to-date database of publications that have been published using UK Biobank data.
  • Maintain other databases and records to ensure they are current and up to date at all times.
  • Work closely with the senior stakeholders based at Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) and UK Biobank with regard to day-to-day activities.
  • Work in accordance with and help maintain processes and procedures according to quality standards ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 and support UK Biobank to meet future targets.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the role-holder is required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested within the scope of the post.  All staff are required to act in a professional, cooperative and flexible manner, in line with the requirements of the post 
 Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with expected 2 days per week in the office (based in Cheadle, Stockport, until 2026 when we move to Manchester Science Park).
Is this 'you'?Reporting to the Head of Research Development, you’ll have experience of;
  • A degree or higher degree (e.g. BSc/MSc) in epidemiology, statistics or a related subject.
  • Significant relevant experience in epidemiology, with an excellent understanding of epidemiological concepts and study design.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience in delivering excellent researcher support and/or customer service delivery in a fast-paced administrative environment.
  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet business demands.
  • A good knowledge of the research processes in an academic and/or commercial organisation is (desirable).
