Up to 90 hours across the first semester for Cardio-Respiratory modules is required. Ad-hoc hours for other specialities.

The University of Chichester is looking for talented, passionate HCPC registered Physiotherapist(s) to join its rapidly growing health care education team, based at the Chichester campus on a temporary basis. This is an exciting time for health care education in our GOLD rated Teaching Excellence University which reflects our outstanding teaching and student experience. We are growing our provision and have significant investment in resources alongside a growing reputation for innovation and excellence.

The department is currently seeking Associate Lecturer(s) with experience and interest in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy to cover 2 modules in semester 1 in the first instance, but would also like to widen our team expertise in Neurological/Frailty specialism.

We have an URGENT need to resource two cardio modules which are designed with key content in place, however this may need adjustment to meet personal expertise. You would be required to teach one day per week for each module, to positively support the learning journey of the student, undertake assessment and mark.

Main duties of the job

The AL role would suit colleagues who wish to consider an educational role in the future, or who aspire towards a clinical academic career in the future and will provide access to future research opportunities. Successful post holders will have access to extensive professional development opportunities and courses relevant to the role being undertaken.

For the associate lecturer for Module leadership, the successful post holder(s) will have Senior Physiotherapy experience in the Cardio-Pulmonary rehabilitation or care and experience of supporting students or teaching a group of learners.

All applicants need to be UK based, be able to physically teach on campus, demonstrate an understanding of CSP/HCPC requirements for knowledge, skills and behaviour alongside experience of supporting students in clinical practice.

Your teaching will be informed by a combination of practical experience and/or research to support high quality learning and teaching, experience of using Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), and the use of technologies to enhance the learning, assessment of and feedback to our students.

Job responsibilities

Function of the Post: At the University of Chichester, we offer both BSc and MSc courses in Physiotherapy with teaching required at pre-registration level. The primary role of this post will be to contribute to the two Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy modules.

Principal Accountabilities: You will contribute to the delivery of Physiotherapy education enhancing the student experience on both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physiotherapy programmes; providing students with a high-quality, research informed educational experience leading to an understanding of healthcare practice and the achievement of both academic and professional qualifications. You will also contribute to developments in response to the professional and interprofessional agendas, and support collaborations with clinical colleagues to develop and prepare appropriate clinical placements including educational audit and clinical liaison.

1. You will support and contribute to teaching at pre-registration level. 2. To discuss and understand student requirements and to meet these with confidence. 3. The post holder (s) will be expected to set assessments, monitor student performance, and provide appropriate feedback and guidance and set and supervise student projects.

Learning and Teaching

Teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study, with the assistance of a mentor if required. Teach in a developing capacity in a variety of settings including interactive workshops. Transfer knowledge in the form of practical skills, methods and techniques. Identify learning needs of students and develop appropriate learning outcomes. Ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials will meet the defined learning outcomes. Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance. Develop the skills of applying appropriate approaches to teaching. Foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical and rational discourse and, with guidance, challenge students thinking where appropriate. Oversee the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems. Assess the work and progress of students by reference to established criteria and provide constructive feedback to students. Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback. Deliver high quality, effective and interactive teaching using a range of methods including face to face, blended and remote delivery if necessary. Assist with the supervision of students projects, fieldwork and placements.

Research and/or scholarly activities

Identify professional and/or scholarly activities to support the development of own teaching and learning skills. Supervise students projects, fieldwork and placements. Act as a mentor for students in the capacity of Academic Advisor.

Communication, liaison and networking

Deal with routine communication using a range of media.

Communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically including marking and assessment.

Communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature.

Liaise with colleagues and students.

Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks to exchange information and to form relationships for future collaboration. Join external networks to share information and ideas.

Teamwork

Develop initiative, creativity and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching and learning support and scholarly activities. Respond to pedagogical and practical challenges. Share responsibility in deciding how to deliver modules and assess students. Contribute to collaborative decision making with colleagues on academic content and on the assessment of students work.

Planning and balancing resources

Follow systems for the use of appropriate teaching resources and facilities. Use teaching resources and facilities as appropriate to ensure student needs and expectations are met. Plan and manage own teaching and tutorials as agreed with the Head or Director of Department/Institute or line manager. Balance (with help) the pressures of teaching, scholarship and administrative demands such as assessment and marking within competing deadlines.

Work environment
