The Senior Estimator – Construction and Civil Engineering is responsible for overseeing the development of cost estimates and budgets for Construction and civil engineering projects and similar works within projects.

This role will involve coordinating with various departments, analysing project specifications, and ensuring that all estimates are accurate and aligned with company standards.

Your expertise and experience working with or for a main contractor will be crucial in ensuring that our bids are both competitive and profitable. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive estimates that reflect the true scope and costs of our projects.

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or related field or a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role ideally with a Main Contractor.
  • Proven track record of successfully mentoring and guiding junior team members and delivering accurate cost estimates.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in estimating software and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, materials, and labour costs.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), RICS or similar.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Construction civil engineering estimators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Liaise with electrical estimating head and the team to provide complete estimates
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure timely and accurate completion of estimates.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive estimates.
  • Use specialised software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency in estimation processes.
  • Analyse project requirements and constraints to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks.
  • Conduct site visits to gather necessary information and assess project conditions.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to gather input and ensure accurate estimates.
  • Coordinate with procurement and subcontracting teams to obtain quotes and negotiate prices.
  • Prepare and present detailed estimation reports and summaries to senior management and clients.
  • Maintain records of estimates, including assumptions, methodologies, and supporting data.
  • Continuously review and refine estimating processes and methodologies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, cost fluctuations, and new technologies that impact cost estimation.
  • Assist in the development of project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual project costs against estimates and recommend corrective actions as needed.
