The role of the SLT is to develop and provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to people with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs - this role sits within the within the Inpatient Adult Mental Health Service in Notts Healthcare. You will be working with adults who have/experience Mental Health difficulties, Personality Disorder, Neurodiversity diagnoses & Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
The role requires a high level of clinical and professional expertise in order that the population can benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective SLT. The role remit includes individual assessment, diagnosis, therapy and management, training, advice & liaison. The post holder will have a mixed caseload of Dysphagia and Communication cases.
Main duties of the job
To be autonomous and responsible for the assessment, formulation and management of a specialist clinical caseload ensuring practice is in line the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist's Position Paper and Quality Guidelines.
To coordinate access to speech and language therapy for both Dysphagia and Communication referrals across 2 inpatient mental health hospital sites (Highbury Hospital & Sherwood Oaks).
To develop and implement the 5 Good Communication standards.
To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums as required.
To be responsible for the mentoring, supervision and management of junior speech and language therapists, assistant speech and language therapists and students (as required & appropriate).

Qualifications, Training, Experience & Knowledge
Essential
Recognised SLT Degree/diploma RCSLT Registered HCPC Registered Portfolio of relevant post qualification CPD - Communication & Dysphagia Working experience of assessing and managing a complex caseload - SLCN & Dysphagia Experience of effective multi-disciplinary/agency working Experience of delivering environmental approaches Highly specialist applied knowledge of working with adults with SLCN Knowledge of SLT tools for assessments and interventions relating to the client group; Communication & Dysphagia Knowledge of National Policy and guidance and impact on local practice. Highly specialist applied knowledge of working with adults with Dysphagia needs (inc. but not limited to the completion of Dysphagia competencies) Experience of working without direct oversight on a day to day basis
