Job Purpose

This is a fixed term 6 years post to support the teaching and research activities of Oral Medicine within the Dental School. The post comes with a NTN for oral medicine specialty training.It provides an opportunity for training a junior clinical academic as part of capacity building for the discipline of Oral Medicine within the Dental School. Clinical training will be a major focus of the Lectureship in order to ensure the appointee can successfully complete a Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training (CCST). The duration of training may be reduced by up to 2 years if eligible and agreed through the ARCP process. Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical training: To undertake a specialty clinical training programme as approved by the SAC in Oral Medicine, leading to the award of a CCST and engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate. Rotations to appropriate departments in related medical disciplines will be arranged within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and in other relevant locations as required. Undergraduate teaching: On average, there are around 90-100 undergraduate BDS students each year. The appointee will be required to prepare and deliver lectures and seminars and participate in examination and assessment duties. The appointee will also be required to undertake assessment of courses within recommended timescales and to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning. Clinical teaching: This will include direct instruction and supervision of students participating in clinical oral medicine. The appointee will also participate in assessment of students and develop effective working relationships with students, responding appropriately to specific learning support needs. Postgraduate teaching: The appointee will be required to prepare and deliver lectures and seminars and to participate in examination and assessment. The appointee may also be required to undertake clinical supervision. Research: Additional Duties: The appointee may be required to undertake other duties such as: membership of committees, administrative duties, participation in working groups, mentoring of students or other relevant duties at the request of the Head of the Dental School or the Section Head.
