The primary objective of this position is to lead the design and implementation of clinical trials focused on pharmacogenomics.
The successful candidate will be responsible for securing significant funding to support research initiatives, producing influential publications, and disseminating research outcomes through esteemed scientific journals.
This role will be crucial in the establishment and delivery of a new Master's program in Pharmacogenomics and Clinical Implementation.
The Clinical Senior Lecturer will also engage in clinical practice and spearhead service advancements in line with their clinical specialty under an honorary NHS contract at a consultant level.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Academic 1.Take a leading role in the conception and execution of individual and/or collaborative research projects of international caliber, actively contributing to the development of the research strategy for the College/Institute/School.
2.Serve as the principal investigator or project leader on significant research initiatives, maintaining a portfolio of high-quality and impactful publications.
3.Lead major funding proposals and related activities, including knowledge exchange, to cultivate and sustain support for the discipline and uphold the University’s recognized excellence.
4.Assume academic management and leadership responsibilities to ensure exemplary course/program administration, establishing and monitoring standards while leading policy and practice development across research and teaching teams beyond the subject/institute/school level.
5.Establish and nurture effective networks with students, staff across the University, and external stakeholders to integrate key University priorities such as graduate attributes, professional requirements, work-related learning, transitions support, student mobility, and quality enhancement within both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing activities.
6.Develop a strategic framework for incorporating learning technologies across the Subject/Institute/School and College to enhance course/program delivery, organization, feedback, and assessment within campus-based, blended, and online formats.
7.Champion the creation of inclusive and innovative teaching, learning, and assessment methods that address the diverse needs of the student body, while managing the associated cultural shifts and providing staff support and development.
8.Regularly engage in relevant activities to contribute effectively to the subject area through learned societies, professional organizations, and broader review and editorial processes.
9.Disseminate research findings at local, national, and international levels to enhance learning within the discipline and represent the University externally.
10.Utilize an established network of external stakeholders to increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice in alignment with the strategic priorities of the Institute/School/College/University.
11.Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, ensuring their effective development and providing assistance with challenges such as learning support.
12.Engage in ongoing professional development activities as appropriate.
13.Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Director of Institute/Head of School.
14.Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan.
Clinical 15.
Contribute to clinical service delivery at the level of Honorary Consultant with a special interest in clinical pharmacology within the NHS.
16.Ensure compliance with annual appraisal and GMC/GDC NHS revalidation. Participation in the NHS/University Joint Appraisal Scheme is a condition of employment for all medical academic staff.
Qualifications Essential: A1. Doctorate level qualification [PhD or MD] or equivalent in a related field with a well-established reputation in research and substantial teaching experience within the discipline/subject area.
A2. Required clinical qualification and certification for practice at Consultant level in the UK.
A3. Relevant and ongoing membership of the General Medical Council/General Dental Council.
A4. Recognized expertise in the subject discipline/specialism to foster new knowledge and understanding within the field.
A5. Comprehensive understanding of, and proven track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at the Institute/School/Service/College level.
A6. Sustained engagement with current practices and evolving knowledge.
A7. Alignment with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims, and ambitions.
Desirable: B1. Membership of a relevant professional organization, if applicable.
Knowledge & Skills Essential: C1. Expert knowledge of Clinical Pharmacology.
C2. Understanding of Pharmacogenomics.
C3. Substantial record of published research of international standard compatible with enhancing the Institute/School's submission to the REF.
C4. High-quality skills in Clinical Trials.
C5. Ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences to promote understanding.
C6. Capacity to demonstrate independent thought to generate original research and secure funding.
C7. Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently allocate resources in support of major research and teaching initiatives.
Experience Essential: E1. Experience in Pharmacogenomics clinical trials or education.
E2. Experience in Patient Public Involvement and Education in Pharmacogenomics.
E3.
Ability to establish new and effective relationships with colleagues, both internally and externally, to promote collaboration across the University and with peers in other institutions.
Desirable: F1. Proven history of developing and implementing teaching programs, techniques, and methods.F2. Record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early career academic colleagues in the subject area/team.
Terms and Conditions An honorary consultant contract will be sought from the NHS, with a salary range reflective of the New Consultant Contract in Scotland. Additional payments may be available for clinical activities, subject to eligibility. This position is full-time and open-ended.
The role is considered registered work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act, requiring the successful applicant to become a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups PVG Scheme prior to appointment. If selected, the employment offer will be contingent upon PVG Scheme membership.
