Job summary

As a team we are proud to be in position to recruit a Full Time Peer Support Worker into our successful health and wellbeing service - Zone 5-19. This post is fixed until 31st March 2025.

We are looking for a highly motivated person, who through their own lived experiences is able to inspire and support recovery for Young People whose lives are impacted by their own, or their family's Drug and or alcohol use.

The role will involve working alongside qualified Substance Misuse Practitioners to ensure that young people are supported to achieve their care plan goals. Either on a 1:1 basis or through group work.

The successful candidate will be an advocate for the Young People who are supported by Zone 5-19 and instil confidence and self belief in them, helping them to build a positive identity and maximising their life opportunities.

As the role is peer support it is necessary that you will have had lived experience of drug or alcohol recovery and/or have been impacted by the drug/alcohol use of someone with whom you live or lived.

Main duties of the job

To establish a safe, supportive and respectful relationship with young people

Help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful goals and set achievable self-focussed objectives, drawing on mutual resources as peers and working closely with clinicians to utilise a range of recovery tools, techniques and experience.

Model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness via the telling of their own lived experience which can be utilised as a means of inspiring and instilling confidence in young people and their families

Support the delivery of group work specifically the Family Moving On Together programme across the service alongside qualified practitioners

Assist young people in creating an Action Plan that can be utilised by the service user and or their family

Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable young people to participate in community activities, in order to maximise their life opportunities and a positive identity.

Accompany young people to appointments/meetings when required, perform a range of practical tasks aligned to care plan goals

Act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other multidisciplinary team members, service users and carers.

Advocate for the rights of young people that use Zone 5-19 services
