**Doncaster Safe Space - Peer Support Lead**
£26,000 - £31,000 pa/pro rata
Responsible to : Service Manager
**This role is fixed term up to March 2026, with the possibility of being extended.**
**The post will involve regular work (including bank holidays) in the evening and at night usually between the hours of 2pm - 2am.**
**BACKGROUND TO SERVICE**
The Safe Space in Doncaster is a People Focused Group service commissioned by Doncaster CCG in partnership with Rotherham Doncaster and South Humberside Health Trust (RDaSH) South Yorkshire Police (SYP) and Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS).
The service provides a non-clinical alternative to A&E for adults in crisis, offering person-centred support in a non-clinical setting. The post holder will be part of the Peer Supervision network, particularly supporting Peer Supporters new to post. The post holder will have some responsibilities managing the day-to-day delivery of the service and supporting people in acute distress, including one to one support, support planning and liaising with local services.
**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
To strengthen the delivery of the Doncaster Safe Space
To provide effective management and supervision of Doncaster Safe Space Peer Supporters.
To support the development of Peer Supporters and increase Peer Support opportunities in the service.
To support with rota management.
To work closely with the Service Manager to engage with key stakeholders, including A&E, GPs, blue light services and other voluntary sector organisations.
Working with people in acute states of distress and who use a variety of coping mechanisms.
This involves working with people who use substances and people who self harm.
Supporting people who are expressing suicidal thoughts and feelings.
**ONGOING LEADERSHIP**
1. To provide a culturally sensitive(with due regard to marginalised groups including BAME, LGBTQ+) and accessible service and develop the service in line with visitor needs.
2. To provide management and supervision to the Doncaster Safe Space Peer Support volunteers.
3. To fully involve visitors in service development and delivery and support a co
- productive approach.
4. To be part of the team responsible for the recruitment, selecting and induction of Peer Supporters.
5. To work closely with the Service Manager and other Team Leaders to share ideas, reflect and provide continuous improvement and attend meetings according to the needs of the service.
6. To provide support to individuals who are experiencing crisis and acute distress, including one to one support, support planning, liaison with local services and introduction to other community services.
7. To represent and promote the service in the wider health and social care community, including playing a key role on the multi-agency meetings.
8. To support the monitoring of the performance of the service, providing regular reports for Service Manager on activity and effectiveness of the service and ensure staff maintain full, accurate and up to date confidential records.
9. To delegate responsibility for managing agreed expenditure in line with service budget including maintenance of records.
10. To liaise with relevant colleagues to ensure that IT equipment and other resources are available and maintained to the necessary standards to support service delivery.
**GENERAL**
1. To work closely with The Board of Directors and everyone involved with the running of Safe Space.
2. To be inducted, supervised, appraised, and trained in line with the organisation’s policies procedures and practices.
3. To be an active member of Doncaster’s Safe Space Team and to undertake any work arising from it as appropriate.
4. To implement People Focused Group’s policies and practices and comply with the aims of PFG at all times. To be committed to the organisation’s Equal Opportunities and Anti Discriminatory Policies.
5. To be responsible for personal learning and development where appropriate and undertake learning and developments activities, both mandatory and optional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness.
7. To ensure that Data Protection, Health & Safety, Complaints Handling and Corporate Governance requirements are met.
8. To be aware of and employ the general practices of organisational Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and ensure these are adhered to at all times.
9. To undertake any other duties as directed by the Service Manager that may reasonably fall within the scope of the post
