Job summary

We are looking to recruit 1 WTE ( hrs per week) Band 7 Nutrition Nurse on a fixed term contract for 1 year to lead our bespoke Nutrition Nursing Team consisting of 2 Band 6 Nutrition Nurses.

We are a diverse department of 43 Dietitians, Nurses, Dietetic Assistants and Administratorsproviding an integrated dietetic service to the West Suffolk Hospital and the wider community.

The Nutrition Nursing team is innovative and always striving to improve services to the community and support to West Suffolk Hospital largely focusing on admission prevention. The Nursing team manages patients in the community who receive enteral feeding at home, working very closely with the Dietetic Home Enteral Feeding Team and Community Nursing Services.

Main duties of the job

The Nutrition Nurse will provide services such as gastrostomy tube changes, nasogastric and bridal tube placements, pump and tube management training to patients/carers and professionals, dressing changes and stoma reviews in West Suffolk Community, in addition to supporting nurses at West Suffolk Hospital . They provide troubleshooting advice to patients, carers and health professional when required. The team is supported by a 24hr Nurse helpline provided by the suppliers of Enteral Feeds.

Administration tasks will include registering patients onto the supplier's portal, ordering ancillaries and plastics and reconciling invoices. Full training will be provided

Managerial tasks will include giving clinical supervision and carrying out appraisals for the team. The lead also provides student training and represents the department in different forums and stakeholder groups.

Job Summary

To provide as a member of the dietetic team, a high standard of nursing care in relation to nutrition in both acute and primary care settings.

To ensure that patients receive high quality, cost effective Nutritional Support when appropriate.

To ensure that potential nutrition related complications are minimised and recovery from ill health is maximised.

To maximise admission avoidance of home enteral feed patients by providing regular review, and a response service for emergencies relating to the feeding sites within regular working hours.

To supervise junior nutrition support staff, ensuring up to date appraisals, mandatory training and appropriate competency training.
