Healthcare Assistant - FlexiBank

One Ashford Hospital, Kent has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly Outpatients team.

Please note: this is a FlexiBank role working on an 'as and when required' basis; you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff during periods of annual leave or absence.

Reporting to the Outpatients Manager, as a Healthcare Assistant you will:

  • Assist the Registered Nurses to care for patients following surgical, investigative or medical procedures in line with national guidelines, hospital policies and best practice standards
  • Work as part of a highly trained and experienced team, exercising initiative and prioritising workloads whilst following departmental policies and procedures.

Salary: £11.44 per hour

Hours: FlexiBank shifts Mon to Fri. Shifts will be between 07:30 and 20:30

Healthcare Assistant

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support our Registered Nurses in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient
  • Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this
  • Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
  • Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse
  • Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe
  • Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, for example cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times
  • Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels
  • Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
  • Chaperone when required

Healthcare Assistant

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent
  • NVQ or equivalent, Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care preferred
  • Care Certificate

Experience:

  • Ability to learn and develop and undertake appropriate training
  • Some health care experience in a hospital environment

Skills:

  • Caring, patient and customer focused
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Basic computer skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills

Desirables:

  • Experience in private healthcare
  • Competence in phlebotomy, cannulation and taking ECGs
