The role will require you to lead a team of nurses whilst having oversight of the day-to-day clinical lists. The senior nurse position will be involved in clinical decision making ensuring the continuation of nurse led PICC and Midline service, nurse led sedation and develop new opportunities for nurses to carry out other minimally invasive procedures. You will see work closely with the wider radiology management and consultant radiologists to implement change, procure new equipment and develop new and exciting procedures.

The wider team will support you with the new management aspects that this role requires, whilst also enabling you to develop and learn with host of internal and external courses that Croydon Hospital can provide you.

Main duties of the job

Act as a positive role model, creating a supportive attitude to empower staff contribute to the delivery of excellent person centered care. Enable staff to be effective advocates for the rights and needs of their patients.

The Senior Sister is responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, facilitating practice development within the clinical area.

As a visible designated clinical nurse leader, set standards of care and professionalism as per Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct and promote teamwork within a multi-professional environment, demonstrating critical analysis and decision making skills, leading the delivery of a clinically excellent service, influencing and facilitating change within the department.

Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of research, audit, patient feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the team

Ensure that the care delivered to patients is a result of individual assessment of their need using an appropriate assessment framework and actively seek consent in the delivery of such care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Effectively organise and prioritise the delivery of patient care, through appropriate delegation, responding to the frequently changing needs and environment .

Demonstrate clinical expertise by regularly practiving alongside the nursing team delivering hands on care, using highly developed physcial, analytical and problem solving skills

Act as a coordinator in establishing regular and effective communication between members of the multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders

Be familiar with clinical risk assessment management and investigation of clinical incidents, completing the appropriate documentation including WHO checklist.

Use analysis from clinical audit, clinical incident reviews formal and informal complaints to drive change and improve patient care and staff involvement

Keep abreast of organisational and national changes influencing other in the team to meet the Trust vision and objectives

Create opportunities for self and team members to acquire additional skills and knowledge to facilitate continuing professional development as recommended by the NMC

Encourage creative, innovative practice that positively impacts patient care

Plan, monitor and evaluate ongoing mandatory training and relevant education and development opportunities for the team

Initiate and participate in conducting of clinical audit as a means of continuously improving the service
