Main duties of the job

We know that providing person centred care and intervention can impact significantly on quality of life for women as well as that of their children and families.

You will be implementing early interventions using a biopsychosocial approach and developing individualised care plans for the management of mental health in the antenatal, labour and postnatal periods for our women including mental health birth plans.

The post holder will primarily be required to work as a specialist practitioner providing evidence based interventions to treat perinatal conditions. Your day to day activities will also include giving preconception advice to women with major mental health difficulties as well as providing specialist assessments and early identification of mental health issues using NICE recommendations with early referrals to mental health services when required.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, , Mental Health Act, Child Protection, Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within Perinatal Mental Health Basic IT skills

Desirable

Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts within own area of work/responsibility

Experience

Essential

Evidence in perinatal or mother and baby work Evidence of development of specialist practice clinical skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development Act as Care Programme Approach (CPA) Co-ordinator

Desirable

Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held Development of specialist/advanced level of practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development Leadership/management experience which has had a positive impact and created change within the service delivery/practice

Skills and Competencies

Part III or 13 of NMC live register or appropriate core professional training Post registration/graduate diploma or equivalent experience in related work area, to demonstrate advanced level of practice Demonstrable experience of mentoring pre -registration students Effective inter -personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring Able to demonstrate effective communication skills Good time management skills
