The 2 year, fixed term post, sits within the Northumbria Cancer Psychology Service. We support people affected by cancer, and the staff teams that work with them. Find out more about our work, and meet the team at:

The post will be based at North Tyneside General Hospital, North Shields, but the work will require liaison/ travel across North Tyneside & Northumberland.

Main duties of the job

To assist in project work including event planning, project related administration, presentations, and the collection and interpretation of data. Tasks will be agreed and reviewed at appropriate intervals under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, but the post holder will take these tasks forward independently on a day-to-day basis.

To a more limited extent, when appropriate, to support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the Cancer Psychology Service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collections of statistics, development of audit/research, teaching and other project work.

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape thecreation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

The postholder will support the development of this work in the Northumbria locality, working closely with the Lead Clinical Psychologist(s) in this area.

This post is hosted by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, within an established Clinical Health Psychology department, which offers a full range of services including direct and indirect patient care, teaching and training, supervision, project development, audit and research.

Essential

A 1st/2i level degree in Psychology (BA or BSc) (or Masters degree in Psychology, following a degree in a nonpsychology subject) recognised by the BPS Eligible for graduate membership of the BPS

Desirable

Post-graduate training counselling skills or other relevant areas of psychology
