About the Role


Working as a lead in the QC Microbiology Laboratory your role is essential for microbiology analytical method development and validation, ensuring successful data package generation and new product commercialisation for the business.


Alongside this your role provides subject matter expertise and process ownership focusing on microbiology testing processes, equipment qualification, and technical support.


This is a key lead role for the department and is a driving force for ensuring medicines are available and safe, that the laboratory meets cGMP compliance, and continues to offer an excellent service to its stakeholders, both internal and external.



What you can expect from the Microbiology Specialist role at TP:


  • Work collaboratively with the Torbay Pharma Product Development Team and international pharma clients to deliver new products to the TP portfolio and the international market.
  • Ownership of multiple microbiology analytical method validation projects.
  • Ownership of multiple test processes in the QC Microbiology Laboratory.
  • Work independently to deliver projects to agreed targets.
  • Use your technical skills to evaluate and advise on microbiology processes, investigations, and technical support.
  • Opportunity to lead problem-solving and continuous improvement in the QC Microbiology Department and beyond.
  • Learning and development opportunities as TP grows and targets further global markets.
  • Efficient provision of QC Microbiology services to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an inspection ready QC Microbiology Laboratory and team.
  • Provide process ownership for the QC Microbiology Laboratory.
  • Liaise with senior management team on all queries related to microbiology.


What are we looking for:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or relevant scientific discipline.
  • Previous experience within a QC Microbiology Laboratory ideally within Pharmaceutical Industry, however, other highly regulated industries will be considered.
  • Supervisory/Team Leader experience in a high throughput laboratory, ability to manage multiple project streams in parallel.
  • Excellent knowledge of the harmonised pharmacopoeia and analytical method validation to ensure compliance.
  • Technical knowledge of compendial pharmaceutical microbiology methods; Test for Sterility, Microbial Enumeration, Bacterial Endotoxin.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific data packages and interpret data.
  • Experience of Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency GMP inspections, MHRA and FDA.
