Role overview:
As eCommerce Trading Manager, you will be at the heart of driving the performance and health of our extensive product assortment, which spans over 120+ brands. Working closely with the Buyer and a team of dedicated account managers, you will ensure stock health, maximise margins, and spearhead strategic initiatives to elevate the performance of our product portfolio. In addition to your merchandising responsibilities, you will also provide leadership to your team, aligning efforts with broader business goals while effectively managing resources. Furthermore, you will take ownership of eCommerce trading strategies, optimising product listings, promotions and leveraging data insights to enhance the online shopping experience and drive sales.
Key responsibilities:
Stock Health Management:
● Monitor and maintain optimal stock levels across all brands within the business.
● Analyse sales trends to identify slow-moving or excess stock and implement strategies to minimize stockouts and overstock situations.
● Collaborate with the Buyer and Account Managers to execute effective replenishment strategies.
Margin Reporting and Optimisation:
● Generate margin reports and analyse profitability.
● Identify areas for margin improvement.
● Review and negotiate supplier pricing and terms with the Buyer and Account Managers.
Promotional Strategy:
● Lead and support promotional pricing strategies.
● Collaborate with marketing teams to align promotions.
● Review promotional performance.
Category Management:
● Conduct regular category analysis.
● Identify opportunities for growth and assortment optimisation.
Competitor Analysis and Reporting:
● Prepare comprehensive reports on competitor activities and market insights.
● Utilise competitive intelligence to inform merchandising decisions and strategic initiatives.
● Monitor competitor pricing and market trends to ensure competitive pricing strategies.
Forecasting at Key Trading Periods:
● Collaborate with the Buyer and Account Managers to forecast demand and sales volumes during key trading periods.
● Analyse historical data and market trends to develop accurate sales forecasts.
Target Setting and Performance Tracking:
● Set performance targets for brands based on sales objectives and market trends.
● Monitor brand performance against targets and take corrective actions as needed to achieve goals.
● Provide regular performance updates to the management team and stakeholders.
eCommerce Product Presentation and Sales Optimization
● Have oversight of product presentation on the website, optimizing visual displays, product placements, and promotional banners to enhance attractiveness and drive sales.
● Identify opportunities or issues affecting online sales.
● Ensure product descriptions, images, and details are accurate, clear, and engaging for customers.
● Communicate promotions and pricing clearly, keeping all information up-to-date and accurate.
Leadership and Team Management
● Oversee and support the team, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
● Establish and communicate team goals aligned with business objectives, ensuring focus and accountability.
● Support team growth through training, feedback, and empowerment, fostering innovation and ownership.
● Participate in the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to company-wide strategic decisions and ensuring alignment of team objectives with broader business goals.
What you’ll need to succeed:
● Proven experience in merchandising, preferably in the retail industry.
● Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis.
● Experience in eCommerce trading management, including developing and implementing online sales strategies.
● Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in managing and mentoring a team to achieve eCommerce goals.
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Proficiency in using merchandising software and tools.
● Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
