Job purpose

The Safety Advisor role plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations within GAIL's operations. The Safety Advisor will provide expert support to bakeries and support team on food safety, fire safety, and health and safety matters, fostering a culture of safety and assurance throughout the organization.


Key responsibilities

Audits and Inspections:

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with food safety and health & safety standards.
  • Provide feedback and follow up on actions to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address deficiencies.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.


Coaching and Training:

  • Provide coaching and training sessions to staff members on food safety and health & safety practices.
  • Educate employees on proper procedures for handling food, equipment, and chemicals to minimize risks.
  • Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout GAIL’s.


Support for New Bakery Openings:

  • Assist in the opening of new bakery locations by ensuring compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations and GAIL’s standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to implement and ensure safety standards and procedures from the setup phase.
  • Conduct pre-opening and post-opening inspections and provide guidance to ensure a smooth transition to operations.


Compliance Management:

  • Manage compliance cases related to food safety and health & safety issues, including investigations and resolution of non-compliance incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions taken.
  • Stay updated on changes to regulations and standards, and ensure timely adjustments to policies and procedures as necessary.


Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Implement preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and foodborne illnesses.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk control measures and adjust strategies as needed.


Support for New Product Launches:

  • Collaborate with other teams during the development and launch of new products to ensure food safety and health & safety considerations are incorporated from the outset.
  • Support in checking allergen information for new products, ensuring accurate labelling and compliance with allergen regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments specific to new products, considering factors such as ingredients, production processes, and packaging materials.
  • Provide guidance on proper handling, storage, and transportation of new products to maintain quality and safety throughout the supply chain.


And you, the missing ingredient

  • Certification in Food Safety (e.g., HACCP, Level 4 Food Safety ) and Health & Safety (e.g., L4 H&S, NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Proven experience in food safety and health & safety management, in the food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and coach employees effectively.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing audits, inspections, and compliance records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders and build positive relationships.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, ensuring timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Proactive approach to setting priorities and adapting to changing deadlines and requirements.
  • Capacity to balance long-term strategic goals with day-to-day operational needs, allocating resources efficiently to meet objectives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues.
