Solutions Architect in the Racing and Betting IndustryAbout the RoleA leading supplier of data and a market leader in international horse racing, greyhound, and sports betting coverage is seeking a Solutions Architect. Their solutions encompass live data, form guides, statistics, editorial content, images, graphics, and infographics, as well as hosted solutions, allowing customers to engage with audiences and drive activity within the racing and betting industry.As Solutions Architect you will:

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and key Business stakeholders to provide technical guidance for business opportunities and product development.
  • Be acutely aware of the commercial drivers for products and the necessity to deliver business value within a suitable timeframe.
  • Turn successful ideas into deliverable solutions through requirement gathering, analysis, prototyping, and documentation.
  • Assist the delivery squad in implementing solutions, refining solutions into deliverable work items, and ensuring they understand the desired outcomes.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices within the technology and software development sectors, and assess their relevance to the role and business area.
  • Be a member of the Solutions Architect team, sharing concepts, practices, and patterns relevant to the business area.
  • Collaborate with IT Operations, including DevOps Engineers, SREs, and the Operational Infrastructure Architect, to ensure product solutions are appropriately transitioned into operation.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in a similar architecture role or a history of producing software or solution designs.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented and/or Functional Programming.
  • Knowledge of best practices in design and architectural patterns, such as Microservice/Event-driven architectures.
  • Understanding of best practices for creating performant, scalable, and secure platforms.
  • Deep understanding of web technologies and protocols, including the principles of Web APIs technologies like REST and Web Sockets.
  • Experience with persistence and database storage technologies, such as Relational, Document, and Graph databases.
  • Strong working knowledge of one or more cloud ecosystems, such as AWS, Azure, or Google.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, like Docker.
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles.
  • Commitment to furthering skills and career through solo research, training courses, or personal development.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of a sector relevant to the role, such as the UK Horse Racing/Greyhounds market or the UK betting market.
  • History of creating highly scalable, low latency systems.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with AWS technologies, such as CloudWatch, SNS, SQS, S3, SES, DynamoDB, RDS, Lambda, and ECS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, EKS, or Rancher.
  • Understanding and experience with legacy platforms.
  • Proven history of working with senior stakeholders.
