Team Leadership responsibilities for this Mechanical Team Leader role:


  • Resource management - Responsible for task allocation, planning and workload balancing for team members. Work with the Mechanical Engineering Manager to manage exceptions.
  • Conduct regular 1-2-1 meetings with team members - to build relationships and improve effectiveness. A regular, structured approach to managing people and things.
  • Training plans - identification and recommendation of training needs for individuals, in line with the business strategy and needs.
  • Technical and financial review/approval in line with Delegated Authority policies.
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering Manager in the identification of recruitment needs, including involvement in the recruitment process for the selection, review and recommendation of candidates.
  • Routine governance and reporting (financial and planning) of the allocated workload.
  • Customer satisfaction is a key focus, both internally and externally. Develop and build new and existing relationships.
  • Support a culture of teamwork with the DB ESG delivery functions, ensuring efficient and effective communication with all areas of DB ESG to enable the successful completion of projects.
  • Support the Mechanical Engineering Manager in developing and updating the strategy for the Engineering function.


Technical Delivery responsibilities for this Mechanical Team Leader role:


  • Ensuring excellence in project delivery is achieved, placing DB ESG in the position of preferred supplier to existing customers and open opportunities with new customers.
  • Develop effective commercial relationships with existing and new customers and supply chain partners.
  • The application of a rigorous approach to estimating during the bidding process resulting in accurate and achievable project budgets and high-quality competitive bids.
  • Responsible for supporting the definition of project scope and managing the delivery of milestones to time, cost and quality.
  • To provide technical support, advice and guidance to other team members.
  • To take responsibility for promoting the company values and contribute to the strategic aims of the business.
  • Contribute to the definition of new processes and procedures and development of existing processes and procedures within the business.
  • Keep up to date with industry developments including new standards and technology.
  • Ensure that technical knowledge, competence and skills are developed and maintained as 'best in class'.



Core Skills required for this Mechanical Team Leader Role:


  • Five to ten years' experience in Railway Engineering or other relevant industry.
  • Degree Qualified -preferably Masters Level, in Engineering or other STEM subject.
  • Experience in managing others, such as leading a small engineering/project team.
  • Proven report writing capabilities with high quality written communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing competitive tender proposals.
  • Project Engineering experience.
