London, UK, United Kingdom myGwork Full time

This inclusive employer is a member of myGwork – the largest global platform for the LGBTQ+ business community.

At Hearst UK, there’s always more to the story. Join us as our Health Editor to start the next chapter in your career.

We’re the UK’s leading premium publisher, and the people behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Country Living. We’ve created a working environment that encourages everyone to pull together. We never stop looking for brave new ideas. We’ll always try to develop and improve, we trust each other to do our best, and we have fun as we build on our heritage to make history.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Hearst is seeking a talented Health Editor with deep subject specific knowledge, interest and contacts to work over the Hearst Wellness and Lifestyle hub, encompassing Red, Prima, Women’s Health and Men’s Health.

Working over both print and digital you will deftly handle the creation and editing of content over multiple brands, understanding the nuances of each audience and differences in subject matter and tone. You will come up with ideas and craft pages for both Red and Prima’s print magazines, working closely with key contacts in the health space to secure book extracts; conversations with experts and keeping a close eye on trends and shifts within the space. And you’ll edit the work of colleagues in the hub, ensuring that all health content is rigorous, engaging and industry-leading.

An organised individual with an ability to craft sparkling copy over topics from hormones to sleep to mental wellbeing, you’ll deliver first-in-class content which speaks to our audience’s lives, serving them with stories helping them to live well. You’ll monitor the performance of health content, using data to refine your understanding of what is working for our audience and work collaboratively with brand editors to ensure that we continue to deliver engaging, actionable health content to tight deadlines. Keeping an eye on trends in the social media space, you’ll be creative in imagining ways your content could drive engagement and traffic over Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft copy for both print and digital over the wellness and lifestyle hub, as directed, ensuring copy is in brand, and file according to deadlines.
  • Come up with feature ideas and attend meetings with relevant editors to pitch content, refine your thoughts and agree on deadlines.
  • Commission, edit & file content from freelance writers, where appropriate, working closely with the Health and Wellness Director.
  • Turn your hand to digital content which is designed to drive search traffic; land on social and excel on platforms including Apple News, variously.
  • Edit both external and internal copy as directed, ensuring that all health content is industry-leading.
  • Work closely with relevant brand teams on brand diversification, such as app content and membership platforms, over the wellness and lifestyle hub portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Health and Wellness Director on identifying key themes in the health and wellness space. Attend events and conferences to this end, translating your knowledge into content which ensures our brands are the leading experts on the latest news and trends.
  • Work closely with relevant brand editors on refining tone of voice for each publication.
  • Monitor digital health content performance, both on social platforms and using Google Analytics.
  • Monitor the performance of health content on the wellness and lifestyle hub’s social media pages, in order to understand what is landing with various audiences.
  • Work with the Editorial Business team and Workflow team to ensure commissioning, budgeting and other best business practices are adhered to, and deadlines met.
  • Attend PR event and form relationships with key contacts, becoming a key name in the health space.
  • Be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values.
  • You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience working in-house on national titles over both print and digital publications.
  • Deep knowledge of the health world, including an interest in the latest studies and research findings, as well as new books being published in the space.
  • Keen eye for detail over both print and digital copy
  • Collaborative approach
  • Understanding of social media trends and key traffic drivers
  • Experience creating content that resonates on Apple News; ranks well for SEO and drives social engagement.

Please include a CV, cover letter and link to your portfolio in your application.
