Job Summary:


As the Operations Director for UK Manufacturing you will have overall responsibility for delivering close to 1 billion lenses across two sites based near Southampton. This role will have a focus on delivering key metrics through strong leadership, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Our site is world class in terms of its technology and operates a 24/7 high volume manufacturing operation. We have a diverse portfolio of products on different platforms that makes this an interesting and challenging leadership role.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Operations leadership team through best practice in Operational Excellence through a strong culture of Continuous Improvement.
  • Drive the Operations Vision, Mission, Strategy & Tactics (VMOST). Lead the strategy to develop an engaged workforce and the continued development of manufacturing employees.
  • Delivering world class service by providing Global Supply Chain with the right products within the agreed timeframe.
  • Responsible for preparing the Operations Budget and Forecast to meet with the needs of the business.
  • Drive the strategic Operations plan through leadership across both manufacturing sites.
  • Champion Health and Safety as the forefront of day to day, drive the Business Units to zero accidents.
  • Lead Operations with a strong compliance culture, delivering against quality metrics through good engagement working alongside the Quality team.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Director to lead the day to day performance improvements, whilst aligning with the breakthrough projects that will make a step change in performance.


About You:


To be successful in this role you should be a strategic and highly motivated leader. As well as having the operational experience within a high-volume manufacturing operation you will need to be a real people person, putting engagement and development at the forefront of your people agenda with a willingness to pro-actively “walk the floors” talking to employees, getting to know and understand what’s happening at the sites.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Experience of manufacturing high volume products within a manufacturing operation environment (essential – candidates without high volume experience will not be considered)
  • Experience of manufacturing within the medical devices industry (preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience of regulations for medical devices, including ISO Standards, FDA, MDD, MDR and MDSAP
  • Proven examples of leading successful change management programs
  • Proven capability to develop and maintain a culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Previous experience of solving a crisis management situation
  • Honed communication skills that inspire and inform teams


Education:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Science, or Business Administration is required. An advanced degree in any of these areas is highly desirable.
