Cloud Solutions Architect (Azure)

  • Hybrid - Croydon 1 day a week
  • Contract - Outside IR35
  • Active SC Clearance required


Digital Skills are looking for an experienced Cloud Solutions Architect (Azure) with a focus on assurance to evaluate and validate third-party implementations of Azure cloud solutions. They will ensure that all deployments adhere to Azure best practices, including the Azure Well-Architected Framework, Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), and industry standards for security, compliance, cost optimization and operational excellence.


This role involves performing detailed audits and assessments of third-party solutions, ensuring that infrastructure, security, pipeline automation, and governance policies have been implemented correctly and effectively. You will work closely with both internal teams and third-party vendors to verify that solutions are built using infrastructure as code (IaC), are secure by design, and align with cost-optimisation strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess cloud solutions delivered by third parties to ensure compliance with Azure best practices, including landing zones, subscription designs, security, governance, secure access and operational excellence.
  • Perform comprehensive audits based on the Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) to ensure that solutions are resilient, secure, efficient, and compliant.
  • Provide written reports to client monthly on key findings, risks, observations and recommendations.
  • Ensure that third-party implementations meet security best practices and regulatory compliance requirements (eg, GDPR, CIS, NIST).
  • Validate identity and access management (IAM), network security configurations, and data protection measures.
  • Assess the use of infrastructure as code (eg, ARM, Terraform, Bicep) to ensure that deployment automation is implemented consistently and follows best practices.
  • Evaluate CI/CD pipelines used by third-party vendors to ensure automation of deployment processes follows secure and efficient practices including automation testing and security scanning.
  • Verify that deployment processes are repeatable, scalable, and aligned with DevOps principles.
  • Conduct reviews of cloud resources to ensure cost optimisation strategies are in place, such as effective use of reserved instances, autoscaling, and proper resource tagging for tracking usage and costs.
  • Provide recommendations to optimize cloud spend and increase financial efficiency.
  • Ensure governance frameworks and guardrails are in place, including policy enforcement, role-based access control (RBAC), and resource consistency.
  • Validate Azure Landing Zones and governance structures established by third-party vendors.
  • Provide detailed reports and feedback to stakeholders, outlining areas of improvement, risks, and compliance gaps in third-party solutions.
  • Validate the test approach and quality of testing proposed to support acceptance testing.


Experience required:

  • Experience in Azure cloud architecture, with a focus on assurance, security, and compliance.
  • Proven experience in conducting architecture reviews and assessments based on the Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).
  • Strong background in cloud security auditing and compliance frameworks (CIS, NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Terraform, or Bicep) and DevOps pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).


Skills Required:

  • Deep knowledge of core Azure services (VMs, AKS, ACR, VNETs, Storage, etc.) and their best practices.
  • Strong understanding of Azure governance, policy management, and security tools (Azure Policy, Blueprints, Security Centre).
  • Experience with cost management and optimisation tools (Azure Cost Management, Azure Advisor).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback to third-party vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams to ensure third-party solutions meet best practice standards.
