Who You Are

You are a highly skilled and experienced Building Surveyor with a strong background in building technology, construction, repairs, estimating, and contractual matters. You possess a high level of numeracy and verbal skills, and have good knowledge of Building Regulations, Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, Health & Safety legislation, and disrepair legislation. You are well-versed in HHSRS legislation and understand Landlord and Tenant legislation. Your experience includes considerable building inspection work, preparation of reports and specifications, supervising building works, managing disrepair claims including court appearances, and successfully running contracts. You have good IT skills, the ability to prepare clear contract documentation and reports, work to targets, and manage budgets effectively. What the Job Involves

In this role, you will take charge of a specific work stream within the Asset Management team. You will provide professional housing surveying services for the repair, maintenance, improvement, and re-servicing of council-owned, managed, and leased stock according to Newham Council's policies. Your responsibilities include delivering responsive repair services, planned maintenance, and project management. You will report to either the Major Works & Voids Manager or the Disrepair & Special Projects Manager. Depending on your team's specialty, you may handle special projects, disrepair, estate improvements, asbestos management, and minor works, or deal with reactive and planned repairs, voids, and fire damage. Your role requires leadership in your designated areas and may involve coaching team members, working on evenings, weekends, or public holidays when necessary. Key responsibilities include deputizing management roles, maintaining stakeholder relationships, conducting Health & Safety inspections, monitoring expenditure, supervising contracts, managing project teams, maintaining stock databases, and ensuring compliance with legislation. You will also handle contractor disputes, prepare reports, meet performance indicators, and promote equality and diversity in service delivery.
