LOCATION- Cambridge

SALARY- £50,000 to £60,000 per annum (plus benefits)


Premier Engineering is seeking a Design Manager to lead the design team for a manufacturing company. This pivotal role involves managing a team of talented Mechanical Design Engineers, leading projects, driving innovation, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality mechanical designs that meet customer and business requirements.


The Design Manager will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Proven experience in mechanical design and team management
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, and assembly
  • Experience with product lifecycle management and design for manufacture (DFM)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations


The Design Manager role will involve:

  • Leading and managing the mechanical design team to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Overseeing the creation of detailed designs, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement in design processes and practices
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and R&D
  • Managing resources and workflows to ensure efficient design delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to design team members
  • Reporting on design activities and project progress to senior management
