Head of Business Development- Apprenticeship Sales
Please note that this role is only open to senior sales professionals within the apprenticeship sector and individuals who currently or recently manage a sales function within the apprenticeship sector.
About the Company
Our client is a highly successful training provider with over 25 years of experience delivering training. Backed by two of the UK’s leading colleges, they offer apprenticeships across Digital & Technical, Education, and Management & Business sectors, as well as commercial training and end-point assessment services.
They are currently excelling in delivering training through their large and established Ministry of Defence contracts, while also providing apprenticeships across other industries and sectors. Now, they are looking to expand their reach beyond the MOD and drive growth in non-MOD apprenticeship sales – and this is where you come in
The Role – Head of Business Development
As Head of Business Development, you’ll manage the entire sales function of the company, with a primary focus on apprenticeship sales. In addition to apprenticeships, you’ll also drive sales for end-point assessments and a small portfolio of commercial courses. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll have the autonomy to shape and execute the sales strategy while leading a team that includes two Business Development Managers, a lead generator, and a marketer.
This is a key leadership role within the Senior Management Team, where you’ll collaborate closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to align your strategy with the company’s goals. You’ll also play an integral role in identifying new business opportunities and expanding into non-MOD sectors. Candidates with experience in a similar senior role will have opportunities to get involved in the bid and tender process for new revenue streams and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the apprenticeship sales function, line managing two BDMs, a lead generator, and a marketer
- Develop and execute a sales strategy across the company
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders
- Set goals, provide leadership, and ensure team targets are met
- Collaborate with the CEO and SMT to ensure alignment of sales goals with company objectives
We want to hear from you if you meet the below criteria:
- You are a senior candidate from the skills and training sector with experience across apprenticeship sectors such as Digital & IT, Professional Services, Teaching, or Leadership & Management.
- You have led or managed an apprenticeship sales function in a Head of Business Development or Sales Manager role, with a proven track record of driving growth and leading teams (£55K-£65K)
OR
- You have senior sales experience in apprenticeship business development, and you are looking to step into management and/or sales strategy. This includes account directors, senior sales, or lead roles focused on apprenticeship sales (£45K-£50K)
AND
- Strong leadership and sales strategy development skills (essential)
- Experience with bids and tenders (beneficial)
- Experience in the Work-Based Learning (WBL) sector (beneficial)
- Experience in contract management (beneficial)
- A positive, proactive attitude, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team (essential)
Perks
- 30-32 days holiday, plus bank holidays and Christmas shutdown
- Flexible, fully remote working
- Significant career growth potential, with the opportunity to step into a Sales Director role
- Autonomy to shape the sales direction of a successful and well-established training provider
Why is this a great opportunity?
This leadership role combines strategic planning with team management, offering you the autonomy to shape and execute your own sales strategy. You’ll have a direct impact on the company’s growth, making your mark on it now and in the future.
As part of the Senior Management Team, reporting to the CEO, you’ll play a key role in driving the business forward. This position offers significant opportunities for both personal and professional growth, making it a fantastic next step for someone ready for a new challenge.
