Due to a period of growth Spire Norwich are seeking an experienced Capacity and Utilisation Manager on a full time basis.

Role Purpose

To maximise the utilisation and allocation of theatre and outpatient clinic sessions to maximise the number of patients seen and treated and revenues generated. To work closely with SMT, Hospital Heads of Departments and Consultants to deliver short and long term business achievement, contributing to the hospital’s overall success.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Actively drive improvements in utilisation across theatres, outpatients, and radiology.
  • To understand demand amongst key specialties and consultants and to ensure enough operating and clinic time is allocated.
  • To build effective partnerships with consultants and secretaries. Increasing consultant engagement whilst delivering on targets for theatre and outpatient utilisation.
  • To provide a single point of contact for consultants and secretaries to manage the allocation of fixed theatre lists and ad hoc theatre sessions, or removal of sessions where there is the prospect of being under-utilised.
  • To effectively use utilisation data to steer conversations with consultants, supporting them to improve utilisation and/or managing accordingly.
  • To work alongside clinical areas such as outpatient nursing, wards, theatres, endoscopy, and pre-assessment to ensure that all resources are available to support assigned cases.
  • To work with Spire utilisation tools and reports to support activity and chair utilisation meetings.
  • To create dashboard/reporting information to advise SMT of utilisation status, highlighting key or material movements.
  • To have a good understanding of the patient pathway identifying pinch points proactively so they can be avoided.
  • To support the site in the delivery of its admissions targets and revenue
  • To escalate any concerns which may lead to loss of cases and/or revenue.

Hours: Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00 or 09:00 - 17:00

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong communication and operational skills, to be able to effectively negotiate and facilitate maximisation of capacity management in a healthcare setting.

  • Ability to influence a wide groupof stakeholders and build relationships to deliver a shared goal. Previous experience of working within the healthcare industry or a similar customer orientated organisation.
  • Demonstrable ability in problemsolving and prioritisation skills.
  • Swiftly understand the cause of challenges and be able to workcollaboratively with multi- disciplinary teams to resolve
  • Willingness to take ownership and responsibility to deliver solutions.
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • Passion for increasing patient throughput.
  • Natural ability to celebrate successes and achievements, and to question, investigate and preempt whentargets are not going to be met.
  • Persuasiveness and the ability to find solutions through creative and quick thinking.
  • Willingness to have difficult conversations with senior clinicians and colleagues to improve utilisation
  • Contract: Permanent, Full Time, 37.5hrs per week
