Overall Purpose of the Role


The Maritime consultant/technologist reports to the Greenhouse Gas Technical Advisor and assists other Technical Advisors in the Strategy and Energy Transition group to develop and deliver the Association’s strategy and selected work programmes, especially that of the Greenhouse Gas Committee (GHGC).

The offshore industry is currently undergoing a huge transition in response to the multifaceted challenges of achieving Net Zero, improved stewardship of the marine environment, and embedding responsible resource use. It is also a vital sector to support the growth of offshore renewables around the world in line with clean energy commitments whilst maintaining existing offshore energy infrastructure.

This employer has long held the position of developing safety standards across the offshore industry and is recognized as the industry standard setter in this regard. It has an increasing footprint with a range of companies seeking to reduce emissions in line with the IMO strategy.

This is an exciting time to join and the consultant will have the opportunity to shape the future strategy to support members’ approach to decarbonisation, value offering and activities.

The role will enable the organisation to shape best practices and standards for the offshore sector by harnessing the collective efforts of Members, building relationships with new sectors across the decarbonisation space, and fostering collaborations and activities contributing to sustainability goals and targets as they continue to emerge.


Key Responsibilities


Work collaboratively with the Director of Strategy and Energy Transition (DSET) to support the organisations strategy to support decarbonisation goals and meet IMO / regulators’ targets.

Work with the DSET and Technical Advisers to support the GHG Committee’s agenda, objectives, and internal processes. Work programmes include technology monitoring, alternative fuels, electrification, vessel and crew efficiency best practice development.

Monitor regulatory developments which affect Members, briefing DSET and IMCA as appropriate.

Interpret and analyse internal and external industry data to support GHGC and IMCA activities.

Support other Technical Committees as required

Provide specific support to Members on decarbonisation.

Attend and contribute to committee(s) and workgroups, including preparing meetings minutes, and follow-up on actions.

Support collection of member insights to identify opportunities and facilitate development of guidelines.

Assist in the drafting of guidance documents and Information Notes.

Assisting with preparing key presentations and training for meetings.

Assisting with briefings for the senior management.

Work with the MSG team to maintain up-to-date committee member information.

Work with the communication team to develop engaging material, ensuring the effective outreach of the organisations work within the industry.

Travel as required (including internationally) to represent the organisation at appropriate meetings and events.


PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential

Experience in the marine sector or offshore energy or offshore construction or similar.

Awareness of the evolving regulatory landscape and international legislative requirements.

Ability to work with data and extract relevant insights from IMCA data sources and subscriptions.

A championforthe reduction of carbon emissions and related challenges from the IMCA membership fleet compared with the wider shipping industry.

Confidence in engaging at a senior level to liaise with member companies, solicit ideas and initiatives, and drive forward a programme of improvement for the wider IMCA membership.

A strong communicator to pragmatically coach IMCA members of the need to raise their profile and credentials in marine decarbonisation matters.

Experience in the development, design, and implementation of new programs and initiatives.

Education and Knowledge

Masters degree level graduate in a relevant discipline - environmental/marine engineering/etc.

Knowledge of environmental legislation.
