Our research: We fund hypothesis-driven pre-clinical or clinical research addressing the fundamental mechanisms and therapy of primary tumours of the brain and spinal cord, acquired brain and spinal cord injuries and headache and facial pain. Research must address large unmet need and demonstrate a clear pathway to clinical impact in one of these three areas.

Research grants are awarded through our two annual, national funding schemes, for Post-doc fellowships and project grants.


The Role

Core purpose

To lead the growth and development of voluntary income across a diversified range of sources to maximise the funding available for neurological research and help those with a neurological condition live better, longer.


Key responsibilities to include:

  • Shape and drive the implementation of our current fundraising strategy to accelerate income growth in a sustainable manner across a diverse range of income streams.
  • Set out a clear vision for the future roles of the various elements of fundraising including; events, individual, community, corporate, trusts, major donor, legacy and potentially new voluntary sources and models of funding.
  • Manage critical relationships with key external suppliers, such as fundraising agencies, to ensure we have genuine partnership working with these organisations to help achieve our goals.
  • Ensure all fundraising initiatives are planned, delivered, monitored, and evaluated effectively.
  • Manage, motivate, inspire and guide the existing team of fundraisers together with a part time Trust consultant, ensuring each is deployed successfully to deliver agreed targets from different income streams.
  • Provide direction, expertise and leadership on all income generation activities to guide the development of the fundraising team members enabling growth in knowledge and skills, whilst also underpinning staff retention.
  • Represent the Fundraising team as a member of the charity leadership and attend Trustee Board meetings from time to time; prepare papers for these meetings; make recommendations to the Board as appropriate; and own agreed actions.
  • Work closely with the Communications function to develop the brand and marketing proposition so that it underpins fundraising activities in digital and offline formats.
  • Advance the structure, processes, competencies, and systems to ensure the fundraising team is fully equipped to accelerate growth.
  • Be a role model for how the charity’s values are lived in the workplace.

  • Experience of income generation with demonstrable success in growing new and existing income through a diverse range of fundraising activities including events, individual giving, legacies, major donors, corporate and trusts.
  • Strong track record of delivering targets, both financial and non-financial.
  • Possessing an excellent understanding of audiences with the ability to use insight and data to guide decisions about targeting, messaging and stewarding.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with senior colleagues to achieve organisational goals.
