Who are The Profs?

The Profs are an award-winning and innovative EdTech business providing higher education tutoring to clients and institutions around the world. After experiencing rapid growth, we are looking to further expand our in-house tech and creative teams.


The Role:

We are seeking a UI and web designer to join our ambitious and fast-growing team, with the aim of supporting our tech team in creating aesthetic and user-friendly web pages. The successful candidate will have a blend of design expertise and technical proficiency.


Duties include:

  • Wireframing: Creating low-fidelity layouts (using Figma or similar tools) that outline the structure and placement of elements without focusing on visual design.
  • Visual Design: Creating visually appealing interfaces that align with our branding, including colour schemes, typography, imagery, and iconography.
  • Responsive Design: Ensuring the design adapts and functions well across various devices and screen sizes, including desktops, tablets, and mobile phones.
  • User Research: Understanding the target audience, their needs, behaviours, and preferences through analytics.
  • Usability Testing: Conducting tests (using HotJar or similar tools) with real users to evaluate the ease of use, effectiveness, and satisfaction of the design, iterating based on feedback.
  • Loading Speed: Optimising images, code, and server performance to ensure fast loading times and smooth user interactions.
  • Accessibility: Designing with accessibility principles in mind to ensure all users, including those with disabilities, can access and use the website effectively.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with web developers to ensure that the design is implemented correctly and functions as intended.


Essential Skills:

  • Layout: Organising content and elements on the page to guide users' attention and facilitate easy navigation.
  • Use of Imagery and Graphics: Incorporating high-quality images, illustrations, and icons to complement the content and engage users.
  • Use of Whitespace: Utilising empty space strategically to improve readability, emphasise key elements, and create a sense of balance.
  • Consistency: Maintaining consistent design elements throughout the website to provide a cohesive user experience.
  • Basic Coding: Creating interactive prototypes (HTML and CSS) and conducting usability testing to iterate on designs and make adjustments based on user feedback.

  • Graduate degree with 2:1, or equivalent
  • Awareness of the higher education system in the UK and internationally
