Exciting Opportunity: Head of Product Design


Join a scale up business who are on a renewable energy mission within the transportation and technology sector. This company offers all the advantages of being a scale-up business, but with the added security and long-term backing from well-known telecommunications company.


You’ll be joining their exciting journey at the start of their scale-up phase, designing a new products from scratch as their first design hire.


Salary: c£90,000 per annum + bonus

Location: London, 3 days in office (mandatory Tue-Thurs)

Report into: Chief Technology Officer

Interview process: 3 stages


About the role:

Our client is looking for a Head of Product Design to lead the UX and UI design efforts, to move from a predominantly SaaS model to an in-house, fully owned and managed technology ecosystem.


Initially, you will be the sole designer responsible for all UX & UI across both internal and externally facing mobile and web applications, however there is scope for the successful applicant to hire and grow a team to meet the demands of the wider business as the company scales.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive UX/UI design strategy, incorporating user research, industry best practices, and business goals to drive the evolution of their product user experiences.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile applications, incorporating user-centred design principles, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to gather insights and validate design decisions, iteratively refining and improving their products based on user feedback and behaviour.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of design systems, pattern libraries, and style guides to ensure consistency and scalability across their products and platforms.
  • Define and implement design processes and methodologies, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality in all aspects of the design lifecycle, from ideation to implementation.
  • Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster a collaborative and high-performing design culture.


About you

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of projects, including web and mobile applications.
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, design thinking methodologies, and usability best practices, with a focus on delivering intuitive and delightful user experiences.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar, with the ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating closely with product management and engineering teams to deliver iterative design solutions.
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on design implementation, with the ability to collaborate with developers to ensure design feasibility and fidelity.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing design teams, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop talent to achieve business objectives.
  • Passion for sustainability, clean energy, and environmental stewardship, with a desire to contribute to positive social and environmental impact through design innovation.


Location

The business is currently based in our offices in Southwark. The position is full time and office based.
