About the Role:

We are looking for a seasoned and driven Business Development Team Leader to oversee strategic initiatives and manage high-impact client engagements. This role will involve a consultative approach to developing business opportunities. As the Business Development Team Leader, you will work closely with colleagues in various departments, including Commercial, Membership, Marketing, and Qualifications. Your main responsibility will be to develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, while also identifying new business opportunities and generating leads.

In this pivotal role, you will manage the Business development team to expand our organization’s reach, forge impactful partnerships, and drive revenue growth. You will combine strategic insight, operational expertise, and client-focused approaches to accelerate success and build lasting industry connections.


Purpose of role

Reporting to the Director of Commerce and Engagement, the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in Commercial, Membership, Marketing, and Qualifications functions to drive revenue and brand recognition through proactive business development in both new and existing markets.

The primary focus of the role is to promote and sell PMI's range of sponsorship opportunities across events, memberships and qualifications to potential clients while nurturing and expanding relationships with existing clients. The ideal candidate must be confident, enthusiastic, and commercially driven, with a consultative sales approach to understand clients' business needs and present appropriate solutions.

The successful candidate must be flexible and proactive, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and win over internal and external stakeholders. They should have significant experience in sales and account management, ideally in the financial sector, and specifically in selling media and education solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Growth:
  • Drive the development and execution of strategies to expand the organization’s overall services in current and new markets.
  • Identify, pursue, and convert leads into profitable long-term partnerships.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create bespoke solutions that meet client needs and enhance brand value.
  • Account Management:
  • Foster strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring their needs are met and exploring opportunities to upsell additional services.
  • Act as the primary liaison between clients and internal teams, advocating for client interests while meeting revenue objectives.
  • Strategic Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the marketing, events, and membership teams to coordinate targeted outreach efforts and maximize engagement.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, networking opportunities, and client meetings.
  • Data-Driven Insights:
  • Leverage market analysis and performance metrics to refine sales strategies and client offerings.
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership, including insights into client trends and areas for growth.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in business development, particularly in selling education or media solutions in the financial or professional services sector.
  • Proven success in managing key accounts and delivering results in a target-driven environment.
  • Strong knowledge of sales processes, client relationship management, and consultative selling techniques.

Compensation and details of employment:

  • Basic salary commensurate with skills and experience likely to be in the range £45k-£50k, plus commission based on profitable sales
  • Hybrid working. Travel to London required for events, monthly team meetings, client meetings etc.
