They are looking for a Development Director to head up a number of departments within their business. This is an Associate Director role, so if you are looking for this next step on your career this could the opportunity for you


Overview

  • To manage all elements of the company’s development department including team members (approximately 20 staff)
  • Management of process across Estimating, Procurement/Supplier Management, Engineering, Prototype and Production handover. This includes support on issues such as capacity, non-performance, recruitment, personnel and supplier issues.
  • Direct Management responsibility for members of the company’s development team, including Project Managers, CAD and Prototype Engineers.
  • Key involvement in Sustainability.


Key responsibilities:

  • Management of the company's Project Management, CAD Engineering, Procurement and Prototype staff. This includes but it not limited to allocation and monitoring of workload, staff development, authorisation of holidays, disciplinary issues, office tidyness and administration.
  • To act as a technical reference point for the Sales Team, also inputting in project direction in terms of materials and processes to enable the company to meet the commercial requirements of its customers.
  • Authorisation and countersign all purchase orders placed by Project Management staff. This will be carried out digitally within the MIS system.
  • Make policy decisions in liaison with other directors and managers on matters such as annual budgets, margin expectations, team structure, data management, standard processes, systems and supplier selection
  • Hold weekly development meetings with various departments to maintain effective communication and accurate project status information.
  • Report on department activity at Monthly Board meetings.
  • Implementation of the expenditure budget, this includes salaries, equipment and any other expenditure.
  • Responsibility for the attainment of the company's budgeted gross profit margin.
  • In liaison with others, the management of material stock holding, ensuring that stocks are kept to optimum levels; this includes organisation and participation in the company's quarterly stock takes.
  • To authorise acceptance of production and development project delivery dates.
  • Provide support to the Director of Health and Safety/Quality to ensure that the company’s policies in relation to health and safety, quality and the environment are adopted and integrated with all employees.
  • Lead the procurement activity and understand the supply chain criteria to aid the fit for purpose selection of suppliers.
  • Support and have empathy and understanding of the Creative Design process.
  • Provide support and guidance for key manufacturing areas and provide technical skills in relation to joinery, vacuum forming, screen and digital printing, plastic fabrication and sheet metal processes.
  • When required work face to face with brands and retailers in order to support the sales team.
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the company
