Team / division overview


DWS has a 3 lines of Defence (3LoD) governance model in which NFRM independently oversees the Risk Profile and Risk Appetite adherence for all Non-Financial Risks within the global organization. In DWS, Non-Financial Risk (NFR) consists of Operational Risk and Reputational Risk.


Non-Financial Risk Management (NFRM) as 2LoD is responsible for establishing the framework for NFR management including policies and procedures as well as related oversight activities concerning NFR Risk Identification, Assessment, Mitigation, Monitoring and Reporting, Control Governance, as well as Risk Appetite. In this capacity, NFRM works together with other Control Functions who perform a 2LoD role to oversee their respective NFR types.


Role Details


As the Group Head of NFRM, you will be a member of the Risk senior leadership team and a partner to DWS executive management to be responsible for overseeing all aspects of non-financial risks across the organization. The role involves developing and leading the implementation of the non-financial risk management strategy across the organization, developing and implementing risk management frameworks accordingly, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of risk awareness throughout the organization.


Key responsibilities:


  • Lead the definition/design and delivery for non-financial risk strategy, which considers the complexity of different regulatory environments and business lines
  • Ensure the non-financial risk oversight framework is suitable for the range of activities undertaken across the group and that oversight activity is appropriate and proportionate
  • Manage a global team of non-financial risk professionals to ensure the application of global standards
  • Report to senior management on DWS non-financial risk exposures relative to its’ risk appetite and tolerance, and ensure that suitable processes, systems and controls are in place and that the risks and issues are identified and managed accordingly
  • Develop and manage relationships with regulators across jurisdictions and business lines in which DWS operates, while keeping abreast of regulatory developments to ensure that non-financial risk processes meet regulatory obligations
  • Provide due diligence and direction to optimise delivery of non-financial risk and control reviews and assurance initiatives
  • Leading the delivery of non-financial risk training and support to DWS senior management as part of the ongoing management of risk awareness within the firm


We are looking for:


  • Extensive experience in non-financial risk management across multiple risk types such as operational, reputational, information technology, data, cyber, and third-party
  • Strong understanding of global regulations and industry best practices and developing these into non-financial risk policies, appetite statements and risk frameworks
  • Proven track record of assessing suitability of risk frameworks as well as developing and implementing them effectively
  • Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and guide a global cross-functional team
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to and execute against tight deadlines
  • Advanced degree level in a financial related discipline and with relevant professional experience
  • Excellent communication skills; German language a strong plus
