Operations Manager

About Integrated Land Management (ILM):
ILM is working at the forefront of the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) market, specialising in the creation of Biodiversity Gain sites and the sale of BNG units.
We work with developers to help them achieve their BNG offsetting requirements, delivering offsite biodiversity units.
We work with Landowners to turn their Natural Capital into a sustainable, reliable, and resilient income. We assess their land’s potential biodiversity uplift to create biodiversity gain sites, execute biodiversity plans and sell the resulting units to developers looking to offset their BNG requirements.
ILM is entering a period of growth with further recruitments this year to manage the expansion of the business in a growing market.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated individual to manage the day-to-day operations of ILM. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with our clients and ecologists to assess and design all our BNG schemes and the phasing of the schemes thereafter. The successful candidate will also be responsible for registration of sites which involves liaison with Local Authorities and Responsible Bodies.
The position requires an understanding of Biodiversity legislation under the Environment Act (2021), a deep understanding of the Statutory Metric and an understanding of the BNG process from initial ecology surveys through to completion of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
The successful candidate will be working with developers by interpreting their metric and matching up with our available units that we can sell, therefore a detailed understanding of the planning system is critical.
The role will suit someone who is prepared to work as part of a small but growing team, operating with their own initiative to assist with that growth during an exciting time for ILM.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage their own time to deliver the desired outcomes, reporting directly to the Managing Director.
This role would suit a commercial and entrepreneurial individual with experience in planning, ecology or Rural-practice Surveying who wants to be involved in an emerging area of the industry but would also suit a commercially minded graduate in the above fields who wants to join an entrepreneurial business and be involved in its growth and development.
Full training will be provided where necessary.
Operations Manager Responsibilities:
- Landowner client liaison
- Working with Landowners to assist them through the ecology process and advising on habitat design and phasing
- Manage the process of registering sites through Section 106 agreements with Local Authorities or Conservation Covenants with Responsible Bodies
- Manage the process for purchasers of units from initial enquiry through to confirmed requirement of unit numbers and habitat type
- Present reports, presentations and plans to clients and other groups as required
Qualifications, experience, and Additional Requirements:
- Degree in Planning or Ecology or a proven history in these fields.
- Excellent communication skills
- In depth knowledge of biodiversity legislation, policy, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of the planning system
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in the BNG process including the Statutory Metric as well as Microsoft Office Suite
- A passion for the Environment and Nature Restoration
- Based in our offices on the Northamptonshire/Cambridgeshire border
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel around the Country for site visits and meetings as required
Salary and Benefits:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Private health package
- Vehicle Allowance
