This will be an exciting opportunity for someone who wants experience within a global organisation as this role will cover all corporate compliance in all of our markets. This includes product compliance (covering all of our product categories), and all other regulatory compliance (including environmental legislation).


This role will offer a lot of variety in its tasks as you will also be acting as our Data Protection Officer, ensuring data protection compliance across the world, and you will also be responsible for ensuring our suppliers adhere to our ethical standards.

This role will be based at our Global Headquarters located in Newcastle Upon Tyne and will be required to work in the office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).


What you will be doing:

  • Acting as Data Protection Officer:

o ensuring compliance with data protection obligations

o contact for the business on all personal data related questions

o performing data privacy assessments

o management of data breaches.

o reviewing contracts and other third-party data processing and data sharing arrangements.

o participating in any projects which include significant data processing.

  • Managing the product compliance function:

o leading a small team of product compliance specialists;

o accountable for ensuring all products (designed and sourced) comply with the relevant international legal requirements and are safe;

o managing external relationships with relevant regulators/market surveillance authorities

o participating in product safety-related investigations

o management of product testing budget, and appropriately balancing internal and external product assurance.

  • Ensuring the business complies with mandatory legal obligations on a global basis:

o development and delivery of compliance training, and distribution of compliance policies to the global business.

o keeping up to date with any legislative or regulatory changes, sharing relevant updates with the business and ensuring compliance

o ensuring mandatory regulatory reporting is completed accurately and on time.

o identification of compliance issues and management of these issues through to resolution.

  • Responsible for ethical risk assessments on 100% of new direct suppliers as part of the supplier validation process.
  • Responsible for all environmental regulatory compliance, including all mandatory reporting.
  • Continuously improving the general compliance culture, awareness and knowledge across the business.


What skills and experience you will need?

  • Experience acting as a data protection officer or in a directly equivalent role.
  • In depth understanding of high-risk compliance requirements, including competition law and anti-bribery law in UK, USA, EU and Australia.
  • Experience in writing risk-based compliance policies, and delivering compliance training.
  • Broad understanding and experience of in-house legal and compliance.
  • Work well as part of a team in a fast-moving, pressured environment, including working closely with colleagues throughout the business at all levels.
  • The ability to understand the commercial drivers of the business and ensure that advice is always appropriately commercial and pragmatic.
  • Down-to-earth, with the ability to form strong relationships with people at all levels of the business, as well as with key external contacts.
  • Exceptional communication skills – ability to cut through complexity, share information in a timely, clear and focused way.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Ability to work as a member of a cross discipline and cross functional team.
