Employee Relations Consultant
The location of the role is London.
The duration of the contract is 6 months.
The pay rate on offer is £800 - £890 per day (inside IR35).
Role Summary
The temporary Employee Relations (ER) Consultant role will be responsible for providing practical, hands on, commercial advice and support on Employee Relations case management with a focus on formal grievances, disciplinaries and performance management. This role requires significant expertise in the investigation of complex multi-faceted disciplinary and grievance matters. This role also requires the ability to prepare and support Disciplinary and Grievance Hearing managers through the relevant processes independently from end to end partnering with Legal as required and ensuring ER Leadership is updated on risk and case notes are maintained. Expertise in other employee relations case work across policy, organisational change would also be beneficial.
Key accountabilities of the role
- Provide high quality ER advice to business managers and HRBP’s on a day to day basis and partner effectively across teams and functions to deliver best practice results
- Use coaching and influencing skills to ensure the right outcome is achieved in each case, managing risk whilst maximising business results
- Advise the business in the understanding, ownership and application of all aspects of employment legislation, procedural compliance and best practice
- Accurately interpret changes in legislation and codes of practice to ensure the business follows best practice and operates within the parameters of employment law and regulatory requirements
- Develop effective and credible relationships with colleagues and clients to promote good employee relations across the business
- Deliver an effective internal ER consultancy, remaining focused on adding value to the business and maximising the effectiveness of Aon colleagues
- Responsibility for working in accordance with the company’s Risk Management Framework, and compliance with policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or reputation of any Group Company.
Key skills and experience
- Degree educated or equivalent experience
- Excellent technical employee relations and employment law knowledge gained through employee relations, human resources generalist experience or through relevant experience in a management or legal role
- Able to act with sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with challenging situations
- Proven commercial approach with a good understanding of business needs and able to make sound judgements
- Experience of coaching and influencing line managers and adept at handling difficult conversations.
- Experience of investigating complex grievance matters and preparing
- Investigation Reports for consideration at a grievance or disciplinary hearing.
- Experience of preparing disciplinary invite letters, preparing and structuring allegations and supporting disciplinary hearing managers through the disciplinary process.
- Experience in advising on and managing poor performance
- Ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment, manage workload to deliver to tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Ability to work as a team, recognise boundaries of own expertise and seek input from others as needed
- Ability to effectively utilise IT applications and systems including Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
