Job description


We are looking for an experienced journalist, manager and business development liaison to work closely with the global head of carbon, handle contact with our sources and help our reporting of European carbon markets.


Day-to-day the role involves managing news output and price assessments for a team of five journalists (50%), liaising with the industry by phone and in person helping to develop our carbon price assessments (25%) and writing some breaking stories as they arise (25%).


Regular travel within Europe/Africa, and once a year to the COP climate summit, will be required. The role is based in London and office-based three days a week.


Unlike most roles, we can guarantee a workspace where people's thoughts and experience have a direct impact on our business and on their own place in it. We can also guarantee no two days will be the same.


Responsibilities


  • Manage a team of at least five reporters
  • Liaise with the Editorial Director of carbon to identify priorities
  • Maintain and help build the company network of contacts
  • Attend and report from industry and UN conferences internationally
  • Liaise with carbon market sources
  • Contribute to price discovery through developing and engaging contacts
  • Produce spot news stories on a regular basis
  • Produce high-quality longer-form journalism periodically


Experience and competencies


  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in environmental or commodity markets
  • Demonstrable news writing skills
  • Awareness of price discovery in opaque markets and what it entails
  • The ability to juggle several tasks at once
  • A hands-on attitude and a hunger to work as part of a team
  • Proven experience as a self-starter who works well under pressure
