The primary objective of the post-holder is to support in the management, co-ordination and facilitation of oncology research studies. In addition to clinic/patient based tasks, this role includes document generation and control, project tracking and logistics, data collection, receiving of informed consent, adherence to the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Governance and assisting in the continued improvement in the care of research participants and quality of research data.

Assist with recruitment of participants into clinical trials.

Ensure the participant receives specialist information regarding participation in a clinical trial, including potential risks.

Assist in obtaining valid informed consent from prospective research participants in delegated research studies.

Assess the needs of participants/relatives in clinical trials in line with specific eligibility criteria.

Act as a resource to research participants, their families and staff from the clinical area.

Understand limitations of practice and refer participants to other members of the multi-disciplinary team where appropriate.

Work within dedicated clinical research teams, develop and maintain an understanding relevant to those teams.

Develop and maintain clinical skills relevant to the clinical research area (e.g. phlebotomy, ECGs, vital sign assessment).

Organise and manage defined procedures, assist with intervention treatments and collect/record data arising from these.

Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.
