**About the Opportunity**
Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Senior Modelling Consultant to join our Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal business. The role can be based at Harwell, Dorchester or Birchwood and other locations will be considered. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary business (including physicists, mathematicians, engineers, chemists, geologists, safety case specialists and project managers) who provide modelling, consultancy, safety case advise and laboratory expertise to underpin the science, technology and engineering to allow the safe management or disposal of radioactive waste.

**Key Responsibilities**:
As a Senior Modelling Consultant, you will provide technical expertise and advise on a range of consultancy projects for customers, including radioactive waste management organisations, radioactive waste producers and regulators, both in the UK and overseas. The responsibilities include:
- Leading or providing significant input to modelling studies in a range of technical areas; this is likely to include both simple and complex modelling to underpin the safety of the waste management lifecycle, including storage, transport, treatment or disposal. Key modelling areas could include:
- thermal or impact modelling of radioactive waste under storage, transport or disposal conditions
- criticality safety assessment of radioactive waste under storage, transport or disposal conditions, including the challenge of simulating the potential consequences of criticality events.
- simulating materials evolution over long timescales, using either deterministic or probabilistic methods
- Implementing efficient tools and routes for the robust management of data in support of modelling activities or more widely
- Producing, and checking calculations, analyses, design basis documentation and technical reports
- Delivering high-quality and bespoke technical and strategic support to our clients
- Developing an understanding of the fundamental requirements of our customers, and how we can meet those requirements, through excellent client relationships
- Supporting development of our modelling capability with respect to radioactive waste management and disposal, including mentoring and developing our graduates and other junior staff
- Supporting other team members with business development activities
- Supporting the continued development of our business, through identifying, bidding for and winning new work, either with new or existing clients
**Here’s what you’ll need**:
- Degree qualification (or equivalent training and experience) in appropriate mathematical, scientific or engineering discipline

- developing methods, tools or software to understand the key physics of problems
- data management expertise in relation to modelling activities
- Ability to analyse complex systems and models, distil the important safety insights and communicate concisely with specialists and senior stakeholders
- Demonstrable ability to write clearly and present complex arguments in a well-structured manner
- Understanding of the nuclear industry, with experience of one or more of the following:
- UK regulatory and policy landscape for the management of radioactive waste, including compliance requirements
- The UK Radioactive Waste Inventory, including different classifications and waste streams
