**About the Opportunity**
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Quaternary Geoscientist to join our Radioactive Waste Disposal Business, the role can be based at our Harwell Office however other UK works location will willingly be considered.

As a Senior Quaternary Geoscientist, you will become an integral part of the Radwaste Geoscience Team, supporting other Quaternary geoscientists, geophysicists and engineering geologists to understand and model complex glacial, periglacial and interglacial terrains as well as recent Holocene processes. You will quickly develop your skills to offer a range of technical and project management capabilities to support the wider team strategy. You will have the opportunity to work with the Geoscience team and staff across the Jacobs organisation on challenging and exciting geoscience projects in support of nuclear decommissioning and waste management. You will also gain experience in complex bid preparation. You will join a friendly, highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary group (including mathematicians, physicists, chemists, geologists and engineers). The vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for mid-career geoscientists with demonstrable experience in investigating and interpreting depositional, deformational and erosional environmental processes to develop detailed ground models to support on-site decision making and safety cases.

There are significant expectations over the next thirty years concerning the siting of facilities for deep geological or near surface disposal of radioactive wastes, as well as continuing safety case studies and further characterisation at existing licensed sites to support ongoing operations. This new role, within an expanding team, will support our existing business and continued strategic positioning in the radioactive waste management and disposal sectors.

Quaternary deposits, as found around the UK and across northern Europe, require detailed characterisation and modelling to assess their engineering significance for a range of nuclear sites. These deposits represent the near-surface medium controlling important groundwater pathways that influence contaminant fate modelling and whose understanding is critical to supporting Environmental Safety Cases for nuclear sites.

We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments.

**Key responsibilities**:
You will work as part of a team winning and delivering a diverse range of projects undertaken for our clients. Key aspects of the role are listed below:

- Work within a geoscience team to apply, and where necessary, develop new approaches to data review, interpretation, integration and ultimately model development. Develop applied uses of geological models within the wider team.
- Produce concise and well-written technical reports and present results to clients.
- Develop an understanding of the underlying requirements of our clients, and how we can meet those requirements

**Here’s What You’ll Need**: Experience / Skills**:

- Qualifications in Earth Sciences (Master’s or PhD)
- You will be a Quaternary scientist, geologist, engineering geologist or geophysicist with extensive experience in the interpretation of Quaternary environmental processes, deposits and geomorphology.
- Experience in delivery of detailed sedimentological studies from field sections and other intrusive data collection, including some experience, or the ability to learn, thin section work and paleoenvironmental reconstruction using floral and faunal identification from recovered sediments.
- You will have the ability to assist, and ultimately lead, research activities that help develop conceptual models of geological materials, including engineering aspects relating to hydrogeological
