**Job summary**:
Extradition is the formal procedure for requesting the surrender of a person from one country to another for the purpose of prosecution, to be sentenced for an offence for which the person has already been convicted or to carry out a sentence which has already been imposed.

The National Extradition Unit comprises a team of officers with operational responsibility for the coordination and management of extradition related cases.

The unit:

- Provides 24/7 tactical advice & support in all reactive extradition related encounters;
- Receives, triages and risk assesses all incoming requests from overseas territories where the requested person is believed to have a footprint in the UK;
- Undertakes enquiries to locate and arrest fugitives sought for extradition utilising all available tactical methods where requests are graded as medium risk, high risk or complex that are believed to be within E&W (low risk enquiries are tasked to local police forces);
- Monitors the outcomes of court hearings, manages bail compliance and coordinates enforcement activity in relation to breaches;
- Processes & coordinates all removals from E&W where a surrender has been ordered.
- Provides guidance and tactical advice to law enforcement on searching for fugitives overseas.
- Undertakes all collections where arrests of fugitives wanted by E&W are located abroad.
- Participates in cross agency working groups & write national policy & guidance.

The unit has two hubs in London and Warrington.

**Job description**:
**Responsibilities**

It is expected you will bring excellent working knowledge and experience of fugitive enquiries to the role and be a confident supervisor able to drive and motivate a team.

This role will involve shift work and unsociable hours at short notice including an on-call rota; therefore a high degree of flexibility is required. There is a frequent requirement to travel both nationally and internationally, often at short notice.

The work of the unit can be high profile and crime types are extremely varied.

**Work Involves**:

- Supervising operational deployments across England and Wales ensuring the appropriate authorities and risk assessments are in place.
- Quality assuring case papers to ensure they are completed to a high standard.
- Providing advice and guidance to officers and staff nationally in relation to extradition.
- Conducting out of hours on-call duties as a 24/7 contact point for extradition matters nationally.
- Liaising extensively with both internal and external partners, including internationally, as appropriate.

**Positions available & Eligibility**:
**Essential Criteria**:

- Must be a serving police officer in a Home Office force.
- Must be a response level police driver and in date with all refresher training.
- Experience in locating offenders and fugitives from an operational practitioner and supervisory perspective.
- Experience of managing a broad range of covert tactics.
- Experience in supervision of the handling and utilising of sensitive intelligence.
- Good knowledge of communications data and its analysis in relation to fugitive enquiries.
- Extensive experience in making informed risk assessments based on sound rationale.
- Response trained police driver.
- Up to date with all mandatory force training including officer safety and emergency life support.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Surveillance awareness.
- Working knowledge of the extradition act and associated guidance.
