Animal Defenders International (ADI) is a UK and US registered non-profit, working alongside UK charity Animal Defenders International Foundation, and the Lord Dowding Fund for Humane Research. We work for the replacement of animals in research and regulatory testing through studies, education, promotion and development of advanced scientific methods. We also investigate, research, produce reports to support legal protection of animals used for entertainment, in sports, the wildlife trade, related issues, and for protection of our shared environment.
- Job Title: Animal Research & Regulatory Testing Specialist
- Organisation: Animal Defenders International (ADI)
- Location: London, Vauxhall SE11. Remote/regular in-office attendance.
- Terms: Salary: £60,000/year, (commensurate with experience/qualifications). Annual leave 20 days/year, national holidays, 5 days office closure over Christmas-New Year, stakeholder pension.
- Reports to: President, Vice President

**About the Position**:
As ADI’s animal research and testing policy expert you bring an understanding of science, politics and economics. The role requires research and presenting the case for replacement of the use of animals in research and regulatory testing with advanced methods, position papers on animal use, species differences, advanced scientific replacements for use of animals. Drafting position papers, reports, advisories for senior directors and spokespersons; contributing to media statements, press releases; social media posts. Representing ADI; liaison with government officials, regulators, elected representatives. Management of Lord Dowding Fund projects for ADI Foundation (reg. charity).

**About You**:

- Skills and expertise_: Educated to degree level in a scientific field; toxicological/biochemistry is of particular interest. You understand the issue of animals in research and regulatory testing, non-animal research techniques. You understand the work requires excellent verbal and written English. The work involves writing, communications and advocacy. You are competent with MS Office, online research, science databases.

Our audiences are government, public and elected representatives, media and social media. You will produce commentary, position statements, reports, letters, questions to government and ministers, FOIA requests. You will assist with development of campaign actions, alerts, other public engagement materials. You will contribute research and data on other matters such as wildlife, environment, and related campaigns.

- Excellent English, strong communication and collaboration skills required.
- Research, writing, reports, internal advisories; animals in research and testing, advanced non-animal methodology; wildlife trade, CITES, environment, economic, legal research, specific industry or species-specific research as needed.
- Government input: questions to ministers, FOIA requests, UK government liaison meetings; research, reports, correspondence - multinational regulatory bodies.
- Ability to prioritize and work on a variety of tasks (time management).
- Assists with technical review of public messaging: PRs, communications, campaign actions, supporter alerts, other public engagement materials.
- Contributions to social media and websites (messaging and drafting posts)
- Other related duties as required.
- Strong IT skills with MS Office, Excel/Google, online research, science databases, etc., required.
