**The Role**:
Canford Law has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Legal Assistant to join our busy team in Hatfield on a full-time, permanent basis and assist the Defendant Legal Services department.

Main responsibilities:
Manage all client inboxes, actioning all inbound correspondence and queries appropriately.

Undertake conflict of interest checks, open files and acknowledge instructions within timescales prescribed by agreed client SLA’s.

Provide support on financial administration - arranging for invoices to be paid, bills to be drafted and settling ad-hoc financial queries.

Support the department with maintenance of case management system - data entry, sorting and organising papers etc, settling/closing files.

Assist with the inputting, and maintenance of Management Information (‘MI’).

Assist the Head of Department with Ad-Hoc administrative tasks.

Contribute to the operation of the wider Administrative team where necessary.

Assist fee earners with ad-hoc matters, including:

- Drafting, filing and serving Court documents,
- Preparing forms of authority
- Reviewing medical records, financial disclosure or other documents where appropriate
- Identifying appropriate expert witnesses, obtaining CV’s and estimates of fees
- Instructing Basic Hire Rates reports
- Booking interpreters
- Reserving and preparing instructions to Counsel
- Communicating with clients/witnesses
- Legal research
- Preparing papers for Costs Draftsperson
- Liaise with Court, Opposing solicitors, and external providers
- Payment requests to clients

**What we are looking for**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual with excellent attention to contribute to the success and growth of the Defendant Legal Services department, together with the wider Administrative team.

Prior experience in a law firm or administrative role are desirable but not essential.
