**Role Purpose**:
Applications are invited from highly motivated and organised individuals to maintain liaison with partner organisations, represent South Yorkshire Police at emergency planning forums and to write and review contingency plans. Qualifications in this area and experience of policing are desirable but not essential. This is a challenging and rewarding role in a developing area of policing.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Maintain liaison with other Emergency Services, Local Authorities, Health Authorities, Government Departments, the Military, Statutory and Voluntary Agencies.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with organisations with whom SYP may become involved in a Major Incident.
- Represent South Yorkshire Police at a wide variety of Emergency Planning forums, to assist the organisation to fulfil its obligations under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
- Check critical information for accuracy and validity before taking decisions.
- Research, develop and review Contingency and Emergency Plans as directed by the Line Manager.
- Produce and facilitate exercises to test and validate Emergency Plans.
- Works as part of a support team, in either Gold or Silver during Major Incidents and operations, to assist in Incident Management. This may, in extreme circumstances, entail working weekends and anti-social hours with limited notice.
- Participate in Multi-Agency working groups to maintain and develop wider Contingency Planning matters.
- Work within the organisation and with external partners, to prepare and deliver training, exercises and presentations based around Contingency and Emergency Planning.
- Represent the Department at Police and Multi Agency operations, exercises and meetings to acquire joint learning and good practice that enhances our existing Contingency Planning arrangements.
- Assist and provide advice to Commanders and the Senior Command Team on relevant Emergency Planning issues.
- Write Contingency Plans as and when required.
- Perform other duties that are appropriate to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
**Skills and experience**:
- Experience of working in a secure confidential environment.
- Hold a higher level qualification in Emergency Planning or experience of working in an Emergency Planning environment.
- Knowledge of the legislation relating to Emergency Planning, in particular the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of the core JESIP principles.
- An ability to collate, analyse and evaluate complex information to reach well-reasoned conclusions. Able to make and enforce decisions assertively. Able to forward plan effectively, taking into account out of the ordinary factors.
- An ability to meet deadlines and utilise resources effectively. Able to work under pressure and remain flexible to meet the demands of the post.
