- If so, CSA Group is looking for a technical expert (Technical Oversight Specialist) to provide technical leadership in home & commercial functional safety and small robotics (e.g. service, communication, information, education and entertainment robots) to our global network of engineers and technicians.
CSA Group is looking for an experienced Technical Oversight Specialist - HOCO FS and Robotics professional with experience of the IEC 60730-1 series of standards and the IEC 60335-1 series of robotic appliances (including EN 50636-2-107). A background in software engineering is also required as software considerations will be core to the delivery of this function.
**Principal Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Be responsible for home & commercial sector functional safety and small robotics standards.
- Technical support for Testing, Inspection and Certification activities (including accreditation via SCC, OSHA, etc.) within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Resolve technical issues and provide interpretation of technical requirements within assigned area of responsibility.
- Definition of technical qualifications and competency within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Develop, deliver, arrange for training of technical staff in the assigned product/standards area under the direction of, and in support of, technical training.
- Mentoring of unqualified and inexperienced technical staff.
- Conduct internal audits of CSA laboratories and certifiers to ensure a consistent and high level of quality.
- Provide high level technical direction and support to staff engaged in certification work
- Develop interim certification requirements(TILs) and prepare certification notices, informs and Technotes.
- Participate on standard development committees as CSA technical expertise.
- Draft Canadian and/or U.S. deviations for the adoptions of standards developed for security or cybersecurity aspects of products/systems.
- Support technical networks and technical forum activity.
**Education & Experience**:
- University degree in Electrical Engineering and Registration with PEO as a Professional Engineer or 3-year college diploma in a relevant technological discipline plus
- 10 years relevant CSA certification experience in the above product group or related area which includes 5 years at the fully qualified level (Certifier Level III or equivalent)
- A machinery safety or machinery functional safety certification would be beneficial.
- Must have proven analytical skills and relevant technical experience.
- Must have proven audit planning and auditing skills.
- Experience in standards development activities.
**Skills**:
- Must have excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), and presentation skills.
- Must have a thirst for learning and development including self-learning.
- Capable of reviewing technical documentation, monitoring of compliance, effective communication, eliciting information, producing reports and managing outcomes.
- An understanding for safety based risk assessments.
- Strong training skills must be evident, since training of staff, including technical training specialists, is an essential element of this position.
- Strong leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills are necessary.
- Must be flexible and perform well in a team environment.
- Must be willing to travel globally.
- Must have demonstrated competence for the position and commitment to technical excellence.
- Must have strong computer skills.
- Must have excellent multitasking skills.
