To maintain a clinical caseload within specialist areas of Learning Disabilities. To undertake comprehensive specialist nutritional assessments and treatment of clients, diagnosing nutritionally related disorders and being alert to symptoms and signs of wider system disease. To respond appropriately to frequent requests for specialist Dietetic support which include those for people in complex clinical and social situations which require detailed analysis and decision-making.
To plan and deliver individualised nutritional care plans based on comprehensive specialist assessment of needs and knowledge of evidence based practice, modifying the care plans as required. To negotiate and agree dietary or nutritional goals with individual patients and/or their carers using motivational interviewing, counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy tools as applicable. This may include identifying individual barriers to change and helping clients and carers to manage them. Directing referrals for specialist medical opinion and mainstream services (including Primary Care Dietetics services) where appropriate.
Being alert to Adult Protection and consent issues for Adults with a Learning Disability.
