- About the Parole Board:
- The Parole Board is an independent court-like body that is responsible for carrying out risk assessments on prisoners to determine whether they can be safely released into the community. We do that with great care and public protection is our top priority.
- All Parole Board decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk to the public after release. Not all decisions Members make are popular, but they make these decisions fairly and objectively.
- The Board is made up of about 180 members of secretariat staff based in our London Head Office and approximately 320 Members who make decisions on risk and hold hearings at prisons around the country.
- The Parole Board is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. Staff who work for the Parole Board Secretariat are Public Servants and not Civil Servants.

- Job Purpose
- You will be an integral part of the People team. Providing support to the wider organisation and supporting the People Manager with delivering objectives to improve People capability across the organisation.
- You will work with the People Manager to identify trends and patterns within the organisation which allow for a pro-active approach to resolving people related issues.
- This will include supporting members throughout their tenure with the Board and staff related HR matters
- Scope of Responsibilities:
- Activities and actions relating to:
- Collecting and analysing people data
- Supporting staff and managers with people matters
- Managing the administration around internal recruitment and performance management
- Supporting health and safety in the workplace and for workstations.
- Policies and procedure maintenance and compliance
- Supporting all Parole Member management, recruitment and development and succession reappointments with the Member People Manager
Person Specification
- Essential- Strong attention to detail.
- Planning and organisational skills
- Ability to adjust priorities to manage conflicting workload.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt and embrace change.
- Have a good understanding of confidentiality and discretion
- Experience in a HR environment
Desirable- Experience of working with a membership or in a membership organisation
- Good IT skills
- Have prior knowledge of what the role of the Parole Board.
Main Duties:
- Policies- Support the People Manager with maintaining policies and procedures ensuring they are in house style.
- Be familiar with the location and content of policies and procedures to assist in directing members to them.
Data and reporting- Maintain and update data required for reporting as directed by the People Manager or Senior People Manager
- Use IT systems to run data reports and update spreadsheets.
- Monitor and update Mars to ensure data is accurate and attend quarterly meetings.
- Digitalising historical documents, ensuring they are filed and saved accordingly.
Recruitment and reappointments- Provide administrative support to the People Manager and Director of Special Projects throughout member recruitment campaigns.
- Working with the People Manager and Public Appointments Team to support the reappointment of members and former active members.
Day to day- Manage the administration process for members who choose to end their tenure.
- Support member breaks, wellbeing, health and safety, adjustments and other support as it arises.
- Attend national and regional meeting and events which may require occasional travel and overnight stays.
- Manage internal expressions of interest process for the membership.
- Support members in understanding their responsibilities for sabbaticals
- Support the Senior People Manager and People Manager in providing wellbeing guidance.
- Offer support to members on their stationary expenses claims and track claims.
