**Job summary**:
Do you want to help shape the way economic statistics are produced, used and regulated to maximise their public value and ensure public confidence in them?

OSR is the UK’s independent regulator of statistics. Our role is to enhance public confidence in statistics. We are part of the UK Statistics Authority but independent from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). As the statistics regulator our vision is simple - that statistics should serve the public good. Our work involves being agile and responsive to uphold the principles of trustworthiness, quality and value in the production of official statistics.

It is an exciting time for the regulation of economic and business statistics in the UK. Following the end of the UK’s membership of the European Statistical System, the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) has been developing its approach to providing continued assurance that the UK statistical system produces high quality internationally comparable economic statistics. The focus of this approach will be a programme of assessments of economic statistics, with a particular emphasis on quality.

**The role**
We are a small, enthusiastic regulatory team at the heart of the government statistical system, with a single aim to ensure that statistics serve the public good - ensuring they are produced in a trustworthy way, are of high quality, and provide value by answering people’s questions, providing accountability, helping people make choices and informing policy.

We are currently seeking committed individuals to work as part of a team of regulators who are developing our enhanced regulatory role in ensuring the quality and independence of economic statistics across the UK.

You will play a key role in helping to develop our approach and leading projects in this new programme. This will include liaising with production teams, users of the economic statistics in the UK and international experts on business and economic statistics.

In addition, you will contribute to and lead regulatory projects, responding to emerging areas of concern about the production and use of economic statistics or in areas of high public interest. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to OSR’s wider strategic projects and to regulatory work in our other topic domains.

The role presents a unique opportunity to work closely with people at the centre of the government statistical system on a high-profile project. You will use and quickly enhance knowledge about a range of economic policy topics and sources of data on business and the economy, synthesise information from different sources, analyse complex and incomplete facts and figures, and present your findings and judgements to different audiences.

We operate a hybrid working model and fully support flexibility with colleagues already based across the UK working from home and linked to one of our core locations in **Newport,** **Edinburgh, Fareham or Darlington**.

The frequency of attendance at our offices is agreed with you as relevant to your role. If placed at our **Fareham** core location, you may be required on occasion to travel to London for team events. Travel costs would be covered from Titchfield to London for those events. Similarly, if placed at **Darlington** you may be required to travel to Edinburgh for team events. Travel costs would be covered from Darlington to Edinburgh for those events

We expect all OSR team members to be able to travel to meet with stakeholders and colleagues based at other sites as needed. It is likely that such travel would be infrequent.
