We are seeking a compassionate and motivated **Peer Support Worker** to provide emotional and practical support to individuals living with HIV. This role is designed for someone with **lived experience of HIV**, who understands the challenges and triumphs of managing the condition. As a Peer Support Worker, you will offer one-to-one and group support, helping others navigate their diagnosis, treatment, and well-being journey.

Working closely with healthcare providers and community organisations, you will play a vital role in **reducing stigma, improving treatment adherence, and enhancing overall quality of life** for people living with HIV. **Duties**

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Direct Peer Support**
- Provide one-to-one and group-based support for individuals living with HIV.
- Offer support during key life transitions (e.g., diagnosis, starting treatment, relationship changes).
- Use strengths-based approaches to empower service users.

**Training & Personal Development**
- Undertake mandatory training in HIV, safeguarding, and peer support principles.
- Participate in supervision and reflective practice sessions.
- Attend ongoing professional development opportunities.

**Collaboration & Advocacy**
- Liaise with clinical teams, and HIV organisations.
- Promote peer support integration into HIV healthcare pathways.
- Advocate for service users, ensuring they receive appropriate referrals and resources.

**Monitoring & Record Keeping**
- Maintain confidential and accurate records of peer support sessions.
- Contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist in data collection to measure service effectiveness.

**Person Specification**

**Essential Criteria**
- **Lived Experience -**Must be living with HIV and have experience in managing own HIV treatment and well-being.
- **Knowledge & Skills -**Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work empathetically with diverse communities (LGBTQ+, migrants, women, etc.). Awareness of confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional boundaries.
- **Training & Professional Development -**Willingness to complete accredited peer support training. Commitment to supervision and continued learning.

**Desirable Criteria**
- **Previous Experience** - Experience in peer support, mentoring, counselling, or community work. Understanding of NHS and voluntary sector HIV services.
- **Additional Skills -**Ability to facilitate group discussions. Experience with online or telephone peer support.
- **Personal Qualities -**Non-judgmental, patient, and supportive approach. Resilient and able to maintain boundaries. Motivated by personal and community empowerment.
